Game won't launch on Windows 11 22H2
Hello. On Windows 11, version 22H2 does not launch heroes of might and magic 3. When launched from steam, HOMM3Launcher.exe is launched and a window opens with a choice of resolution and full screen mode. After clicking the "Play" button in the task manager that opens, the HOMM3Launcher.exe process is immediately killed and then nothing happens. In an attempt to solve the problem, I tried the following: 1) run in different compatibility modes (Windows 8, Vista, 7) 2) run without compatibility mode 3) run as administrator 4) install OpenAL32.dll
None of the above helped. The game still won't launch.

I made it work. I removed all "combalitility" settings in the two .exe files, and the game worked again.

In my case, I managed to solve the problem by turning off windows defender (subsequently adding the launcher to the exceptions). After that the game started

I wonder if this start up failure, can be sound related ? I have no problems with the game my self, but sometimes when I start the game, I get a rattling/cracked up sound from the first Ubisoft intro movie. Just saying.

In the old days, there was often sound related problems. If you turned off sound, game would often work. Not that this is related, but just saying.

No idea how you turn off sound these days, or if you even can.
For testing purposes that is.

Hey guys!

In regards to disabling the Compatibility Settings, I understand that Benny B (please correct me if I'm wrong!) is referring to locating the game's .exe files; Right click > Properties > Compatibility > Untick all options.

If the above still doesn't help, then please reach out to us as directed by UbiMark's post above and we can take a closer look.

Thank you!

I had the launcher allowed in my firewall, but I had to add HOMM3 2.0.exe in order for the game to be able to start.

hey guys - in my case, the firewall had nothing to do with it, compatibility settings also did need to be unchecked, but when I tried launching the exe I noticed openal32.dll was not available, I had to install that as well following this advice: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/missing-files-openal32dll/39f561cb-d027-427c-a26c-660cd799af37

I do not know if this was really the culprit or if it was pure luck - but I had no luck before this, hopefully this can help someone else.
There is still no viable solution for this. I've done all steps and the game wont start after launcher opens and I press play
