Also you can't play 5 online anymore AFAIK.
The way the campaign is presented in 5 has no match though. Probably the best one in the saga at that.
This game still has a large fan base, player made maps still pop up here and there.
I think if Ubisoft wanted a retro remake palette Homm3 with MM7 would be a strong winning formula, improving the basics, 3d engine, physics but letting the same charm and easy on the eyes mythology inspired mixer bowl to come back.
These days memes, politics, business, DLC and fomo culture kinda ruined all games, h5 may be not into that territory yet but h3 came from an era free from those things entirely.
Heroes V was droped by ubisoft (no balance, no support, servers dead, idk what happend) but russians were creating game and they were fans of Heroes 3 so they made it simillar.
Heroes 5 community is not dead, i think it is smaller but active because they created Heroes 5 1/2 mod, making balance, more freelry builds and classes.
Both games have +/- but Heroes 3 is classic (of course H1 and H2 are the foundation and have a lot in common with H3) and whenever old geezers like me are comming back to play old games, i am thinking about H3 as childhood. This sound truck, great campaign and a lot of more.
What am i thinking about H5? Last good game from heroes series. Unique and at same time nothing changed (except, for example 3D graphic, all troops has unique ability) because they took a lot of ideas from H4 and H3, that's why after playing H5 i am thinking about H3.
Like, look at chess matches at high levels. Look at how fast they play. Its not pretty. Its clean and precise. Thats why the top tier players stick with III. The UI and the gameplay.
1) Heroes 5 has definitely less content
2) It's much slower. At the time of 1 turn of HoMM5 you could couple of turns in Homm3.
3) Heroes 3 is much more intuitive for new players, because it looks like board game. You don't need to do anything with camera to see what is happening on screen.
4) Little things. Like flavor in descriptions.
This is thing I like. Heroes 3 had too many weak trap skills and spells where new player could fall into. Mage guild lvl 5 cost 10 rare Resources and give you 1 random spell (which can be weak like magic mirror).
