Cheers!
castle - sir mullich (specialty), caitlin (on >160% difficulty), adela (diplomacy), loynis (starts with lv4 spell and has increased effect on it BUT he also has learning - worst secondary skill in game so I wouldn't recommend to choose it as main hero)
rampant - kyrre (specialty), mephala (specialty), jenova (on >160% difficulty), ryland (diplomacy), ivor (specialty + starting army), elleshar (dimension door abuse), thorgrim (specialty)
tower - neela (specialty), torosar (starts with tactics, 20 mana and magic arrow, also has mysticism to help spam it early), solmyr (starts with lv4 spell and has increased effect on it BUT can't do much with it early unlike other lv4 spell specialists), cyra (her specialty is greater than sir mullich's one when she aquires expert air magic), aine (on >160% difficulty)
inferno - very underpowered town, weak creatures and heroes, the only ones i recommend - fiona (scouting + starting army), octavia (on >160% difficulty), ayden (dimension door abuse)
necropolis - isra and vidomina (specialty), galthran (specialty), clavius and nagash (on >160% difficulty), septienna (good on clearing splitted neutrals early), aislinn (starts with lv4 spell and has increased effect on it, has no real downsides)
dungeon - my favourite town, has so many great heroes to choose - damacon (on >160% difficulty), gunnar (specialty + tactics), shakti (specialty + tactics), alamar (starts with lv4 spell and has increased effect on it + has scholar so he can easily become a walking mage guild), jeddite (same as alamar but doesn't start with scholar), deemer (starts with lv4 spell and has increased effect on it + has THREE secondary skill points from start - basic wisdom and advanced scouting, other heroes have either one advanced secondary skill or two basics from start)
stronghold - jabarkas (specialty + starting army + archery), crag hack and gundula (specialty), dessa (specialty), terek (same as cyra), tyraxor (specialty + starting army + tactics)
fortress - bron (starts with 4-7 lv4 creatures in army), wystan (specialty + starting army), tazar (specialty + he has highest chance to get defense skill per lvl), andra (dimension door abuse)
conflux - all male planeswalkers have good specialties and secondary skills (except kalt, which has worst skill in game - learning, lacus starts with advanced tactics instead), also all elementalists have great specialties, without exceptions, really. luna has best specialty imho
Otherwise, it really depends on the map for me, smaller maps i like heroes who have lower teir monsters or mysticism/spell damage to help quickly take control of the whole map, for larger maps i want diplomacy and logistics to make a super army as well as keep control of the map after i push my opponents into a corner.
But i mean most heroes have potential (so long as they dont get bad secondary skills such as learning, scholar or eagle eye, kinda dooms the hero to a secondary support role)
