You can't tell me you "lost the code" for that one as well?

Been recently getting back to HoMM II after purchasing it on gog.com.

And I have to say the game is really fun once you "settle into" the cartoony pixely graphics. The graphics are just means to a cause - they help illustrate the game, and thats that. But the gameplay itself is very similar to Heroes 3, it's very enjoyable, I have finished evil Archibald campaign and almost done with the good Roland campaign and I still have all the campaigns from The Price of Loyalty expansion left, which is another 40 hours of gameplay according to the website howlongtobeat. And then all the scenario maps....there's tons of gameplay in this old gem.

I would really love it if this game got ported to HD.

A company going bust and all of its IP, software, tech etc. changing hands is a messy, messy business. Why does everyone find it so hard to believe that the source code for these things can get lost, especially over a decade ago?
Edit: I mean, jeez, if it can happen to Blizzard when they were a perfectly functioning, not-going-bankrupt company....
