Recommendations for starting out?
I am new to Train Sim World, and I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations for good routes to start with. If it helps, I am primarily interested in BR era operations (1950s to roughly 1990s).

Wait for a sale. I like Tees Valley a lot. Nice mix of pasenger and freight, industrial atmosphere. You also will live the class31 DLC in addition to this route.

Leeds-Manchester is also a good starting route, but you really need the Heavy Frieght pack, which is used in many other routes.

here is my selection:

1. My favourites:
Although slightly outside your timescale, I love Brighton Mainline: London Victoria - Brighton. At the moment it is, for me, the most absorbing dlc together with East Coastway: Brighton - Eastbourne and Seaford. I also have the BR Class 313 EMU add-on.

There is plenty to see and do and it is always busy with AI stock from my Southeastern Highspeed dlc running into platforms 1-8 as well as a full timetable of AI services for Southern Railways and Gatwick Express. Certainly these dlc's were given a lot of love at creation.

2. Period pieces:

for the full post war experience your going to need the following. My particular favourite is shunting around in the Fowler 4F in Peak Forest: Ambergate to Buxton/Chinley:

My Steam Collection:
Peak Forest Railway: Ambergate to Chinley and Buxton
Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe
West Cornwall Steam Railtour add-on (This requires West Cornwall local: Penzance to St Austell dlc to be in you collection)

Routes:
Tees Valley Line: Darlington to Saltburn by the Sea
Northern Trans-Pennine: Manchester to Leeds
West Cornwall Local: London to Penzance

To fill out these routes you are going to need the following add-ons:
BR Class 20 "Chopper" Loco
BR Class 31 Loco
BR Heavy Freight Pack (includes BR Class 40 and BR Class 08)

Moving on to the 1970's and 80's you will need to obtain the highly acclaimed Blackpool Branches dlc from Just Trains. This will mesh nicely with the new JT offering of Preston to Carlisle dlc, which is due next month.

Once you have all these you can then go on rail tour days at the:
West Somerset Railway (remastered) dlc
and run services with the BR Class 33 and BR Class 52 add-ons.

I should note that both the Class 47 and Class 52 locos are available to use with my Great Western Express dlc and I have pulled Cargo Line stock with them instead of the 66.

Enjoy.

Transpennine with the freight DLC is a must-have if you wanna get into older British stuff. The stock from these is carried over to a bunch of other BR blue routes and really helps make them more alive.

there's a new BR route 1986 i believe that releases next month 'Preston to Carlisle' , its made by the same people who made Blackpool branches and from the screenshots and timelapes it is looking like a good future route however it requires a lot of BR era routes for layering, in the meantime though i recommend Blackpool branches as its a great route set around the mid 80s
