DirectX 11 is a different renderer you can use to play the game, Monstrum uses DirectX 9 by default, but since the game runs on Unity (which supports both of them), the devs gave us the option to use DirectX 11 aswell. What is the difference? In DirectX 9 the CPU isn't used as much as in DirectX 11, where there is multicore support unlike in DirectX 9, also, some of the instructions the CPU used to crunch in DirectX 9 were moved to the GPU in DirectX 11. Those are the major differences, resulting in higher, more stable FPS.

Oh, i guess i should use DirectX 11 instead then. my computer can handle it.
IMHO, ALL games should automatically go to DX 11 and an Earlier version be offered if it doesn`t work.
I didnt know if this game used DX12 (via an update?), which is why I came here....

WONDERING WHAT THE HELL DX Version is Stock.

DirectX 9 uses all the cores you have, it's just a renderer. Like OpenGL. The difference between 11 and 9 is basically, better shadows, better lighting effects, more Anti-Aliasing features, slightly better performance... And on some games DirectX11 has better grass effects and lots more like Parallax, PhysX, Tessellation, etc.

At least those are the benefits you get from DirectX 11, if the devs know it's features and know how to use it properly to have a good graphical boost and performance boost as well.

But Monstrum is a DirectX 9 game, or at least it was made for DirectX 9, so with DirectX 11 if your PC can handle it, it can give you slightly better effects, but nothing so notorious, because it is not made for DirectX 11, so it hasn't better textures/shadows/shaders only for DirectX 11. It would require for the devs to start the game from scratch adding new textures and effects the base game does not have.

It's the best way I can explain it. For more info try playing GTA V with DirectX 10, then with DirectX 11, or other games like Dirt 3 with DirectX 11, or try playing other 2008/2009 games that use only DirectX 9 and look at the pixelated shadows or shi*ty vegetation effects. Then play Crysis 3 with DirectX 11... It's a whole new world, haha!

PS: If you're interested on how rederers work and how they help graphics, you can play other DirectX 8 or 7 games, from 2000/2004, you can see that they have almost none lighting effects and sometimes there aren't any shadows. Then play a DirectX 9 game and look how shiny things look. Magic.

(Hope it helped understand how a renderer works or at least, how you can benefit from it)
