What's the story behind this game?
Sorry, but what's the story. I appear on a ship, but there's no explanation of who I am and what I am supposed to do.

The thing is, we don't really know. The story is revealed by the environment, certain notes, and the audio logs that can be found around the ship. However, your main goal is to use one of nine (I think that's the right number) exit plans to escape. By the way, most of the ship is procedurely generated, and every time you play, your enemy will switch between one of three monsters each round.

Hope this helps!

Ah, I see, I'm not supposed to know, I'm supposed to uncover the story as I go. A bit like Boogeyman.

I didn't realise it is procedurally generated. I'm glad to hear that. The random generating if dungeons in Dreadhalls has made it endlessly replayable for me and I'm loving it.

I've mostly played Dreadhalls and Boogeyman as my VR horror games, but I'm hoping to get into this more soon.

Is it as scary as those two horror games?

Unfortunatly, I haven't played those games, however the way some mechianics work can be compared to Alien: Isolation and Outlast. Anyway, i'm giving away too much, I don't want to spoil the fun. >;)

We have a theory with friends, because we've found oni masks on board and now our theory is as follows: there is three kinds of oni masks - hatred, vengeance, deception and each monster is one of those. So possibly they got the masks with the shipment, and one of masks was real oni mask with monster inside, that killed the majority of the crew after they took off

In short: The Big Boss Kobayashi uses a cargo ship to transport monsters to the laboratory for pharmaceutical experiments (it is possible that monsters are the result of these experiments). He did not expect that the crew would find a discrepancy in the manifest and want to open the container. As a result, the monster got out and killed the entire crew. Before that, two sailors Chekhov and Wilson were injured. Due to the fact that the monster damaged the pipe system, the sailors were scalded by steam and they rested in a single cabin while the monster killed everyone. What happened next is unknown, but in the end the main character ended up in a barricaded room and remembers nothing. That is, the main character is Chekhov or Wilson, who barricaded himself from the monster and hit his head during a brawl.

The game reminds me a lot of the story of the SS Ourang Medan I wonder if it was used as sort of a basis for the game
