You might want to try spending some gold at the inn keepers for rumours. They're very cheap, at least on normal, and a lot of the rumours are actually quite useful hints and tips (You get hints for Golden Forest and the spore area for example, which people seem to have problems with). Some rumours might even point out to a treasure that you could otherwise easily miss.
Once you kill the prince, all of the guards run away, so you can leave however you want.
You can pass through the forest. Just look for the "Popies", and avoid them (Wizard of Oz).
I don't know how I missed that..lol..I feel stupid. I think I am still jaded and worn out from 120 hours of Dragon Age Inquisition.
I found it, cleared out the castle and also the Temple of Frebret (except the guardian guy)
Doing much better now.
