insane amount of misses/blocks
I cannot count the amount of times I miss or block continuously when I have over an 85% chance to hit with my characters. It almost seems to chain together misses and blocks as well. There is absolutely no way the % it shows on the screen is anywhere near accurate, b/c I miss SO MUCH, even when having a crazy high %. Has anyone else experienced this? It is beyond frustrating to just continue to see that damn shield pop up over and over and over again.

I could understand if I was facing the bees or something....but I miss on freaking Sandworms over and over again. I almost feel like im getting trolled.

i just turned on the combat log....in a span of 10 attacks...i rolled a 1....1....4...2....and a 1. But its all "random"....right devs? Ill save this on a different file for you to look at...this is becoming ridiculous.

i have the same problem! im only at Level 5
dexterity = 14-16
weaponlevel = 6
powerful strike = 4
the game says chance to hit is ~70-80 %... but it feels like 30-40 % plus the critical miss
too much rng for my taste... its so annoying to reload 100 times.

well, the game is supposed to be hard, that's what people seem to expect from a so-called old-school RPG. I've the problem that I have to camp after each encounter. I'm not sure I find this fun, but I'm possibly not hardcore a player enough.
Manticore Feb 11, 2015 @ 5:55am
i like hard games... i played path of exile hardcore for example... when i know, what i have to expect, everything is fine... but not in this game... the math behind the mechanic feels broken.
50 % of the fights im reloading ~5-10 times cause of "the feel of bad luck"

You can mitigate it somewhat. Make sure your melee all use maces. As you get your speed up you'll be attacking so fast the enemy will always be stunned and you never miss.

It doesn't fix the underlying problem but it's made my life so much easier. Once I made the switch I stopped having to reload fights.

i read your post and i have three! soldiers with a mace ;) but that is not a big help against the first tower guardian (beholder) or the black widow (1 fight before)
is it more effective to wound them ? (to get a higher hit chance)

evasion in path of exile: in my opinion the perfect solution

Spiders typically are very weak to maces and you should be able to stunlock them. It doesn't hurt to apply a few stacks of wounds though. Each stack of wounds should raise your hit chance from 2~3% or so.

The first beholder I didn't really bother with until I had killed everything else I could and by then he was a joke.
Sedina Feb 12, 2015 @ 3:57pm
I have missed on a 100% chance before.

The difficulty of this game is certainly annoying - it's not a strategic challenge (at lower levels), but rather a luck test. I'd rather hit more often and do less damage, or something.

it always happens in chains for me as well. Like if I miss with a 93% chance for instance... I can almost guarantee i will miss again on another high % attack soon after. Its pretty annoying early/mid game as 1 or 2 misses can make a break a battle sometimes, where as I am finding the misses in late game battles arent as hard to overcome as ive been stacking the crap out of speed every level.

I dont mind the randomness of missing. But when it happens in chains like that that are almost mathematically impossible (ive missed 5 attacks in a row with over 95% supposed success...multiple times)...it is beyond infuriating.

Almost as infuriating as every room with 2 chests having the same crap loot in it. "OHHHHH leather gloves with divine resistance ill never wear...lets hope this 2nd chest has something better".................

leather gloves with divine resistance.

thx for the advice. helps me alot.

the loot system is really bad. in many location i "ran" through the map and hope the loot is ok... if not -> reload

example: first city dungeon (tomb of the queen or something like that) very hard enemy for that level and the chest contains only crap... i had to fight the skeleton 20-30 times until the loot was "ok".
better would be 3 items and u have to choose 1.

btw cause of the loot system i ragequitted divinity original sin

I focus on stun, Lightning autohits and stuns, and makes hitting much easier. I also have a Bard who does the stun song all combat long, in the easier combats my opponents don't even get a go!

Oh and you can reload after lockpicking any chest, pick it again and it will different contents.

Daniel.

I don't mind all the misses....but seriously, if my chance to hit is 70% I expect to hit 70% of the time. Just make the game honest about how low the chances are.
redwitch Feb 14, 2015 @ 6:49am
well, this constant misses seem to be a common feature of so called old school rpgs, at least I made the same experience with dead state and darkest dungeon. The displayed hit chance doesn't seem to matter much. They rely heavily on luck. There isn't really much strategic or tactical about it, just luck. There seem to be a lot of people enjoying this though. Possibly it's not my type of games.
Aggnog Feb 19, 2015 @ 12:57am
You simply need to play in a way that can handle things not going your way.
Instead of complaining about misses you should instead work around having buffs to accuracy from your bard, and a paladin for evasion/defense which will make enemies miss also and allow you to finish the fight. Healing is also something you have which the npcs don't most of the time and even if they do you can easily kill the healers with ranged attacks.

Dexterity is also a stat which you should only raise to meet weapon requirements unfortunately. You should favor strength more on all your melee/bow characters as it will make a bigger difference overall.

I wouldn't load up on maces. Many bosses or hard mobs (especially near endgame) are nearly stun-proof, so your mace will hardly delay them at all. Meanwhile, if you'd had a person with a sword, the boss would be bleeding, or with an axe, they'd be debuffed. I agree though, the hit rate seems off. With 80+%, they should rarely miss or have critical failures. I'd gladly sacrifice a bit of damage for more guaranteed hits. It seems no matter how you work your stats, you still have a very large chance to miss.
