Mac -- GC Runs great under Wine

For my fellow Mac users... Just want to let you know that the WIndows version of GemCraft runs great under Wine. (Probably the first game I've found that I can say that about, frankly.) I'm using Wineskin (Google "wineskin osx") but Winebottler or any other Wine front-end should work just as well. Install the Windows Steam client in Wine, then run it and install the game from your library as normal. Works like a charm!

Yeah, I want a native Mac version too, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Until then Wine is a good lightweight way to satisfy that GemCraft itch.

I'll think about it. To write a good tutorial I'd have to uninstall everything and reinstall it all, taking notes along the way. Maybe I'll set up a fresh OSX VM and do it there... For now I'll just give the lazy tutorial: Download Wineskin or Winebottler. Install Steam per the directions on the Wineskin/Winebottler website or in the support forums. Install GC in Steam. Play. Enjoy. :-)

Have to play on my friend's PC for a while, got excited when I found this thread

Well, I installed Steam under Wine successfully.
But I have problems installing GC on Wine Steam:
"An error occurred while installing GemCraft - Chasing Shadows (connection time out)"
I can install games properly on Mac Steam, so I probably didn't install Steam correctly?

Help plz

I use linux and I was able to install Steam and then GC with absolutely no problems (following instructions at https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19444 ).

No idea if for MAC there is anything different to do.

I'm using a different distribution of Wine, called Wineskin Winery from http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/. From here it gets confusing because there are three separate parts each with their own version numbering.

• Wineskin Winery 1.7 -- This is the package that you download, and the app that you run when you want to create a new environment in which to run a Windows program. It will download the other parts as needed.
  
• Wineskin Wrapper 2.6.2 -- The Wrapper is the environment for the Windows program. The Wrapper is an OSX app which contains a fake Windows C: drive and miscellaneous stuff needed to make the program you're running think it's living on a Windows machine.
  
• Wine WS9Wine1.8 -- The Wine engine itself; the program and libraries which are necessary to translate Windows API calls into Mac (or Linux) API calls. Wineskin supports many different versions of Wine. Hopefully the most recent version will work for you, but Wineskin lets you choose an older version because certain versions are more compatible with certain programs. The version I'm using is WS9Wine1.8 which was the most recent when I installed, but is a little out of date now.

If you need more help the Wineskin site has a big FAQ, online manuals, and user forums. Steam is a pretty popular topic in the forums, so it's likely that any problem you find someone else will have had first.

Thanks, I made a copy from my friend's PC and it works fine!

For those who are having same issues, here's a method installing it manually:

Find the following folder in both your and your friend's computer
/drive_c/Program Files/steamapps

Make a copy of appmanifest_296490.acf (296490 is the AppID of GC - CS)
Make a copy of "GemCraft Chasing Shadows" in FOLDER common
