Generally good skills?
I've been playing CS for some time now and have at least a basic grasp on how to play. My WL is just under 300. What skills are the most useful for making it through the game? Sometimes it feels like I'm lagging behind in mana or gem grades even on Looming with a few modifiers on 7. Glaring on quite a few levels is very rough and kills my orb before wave 80.

The only skill I haven't unlocked yet is the red component, all others are available. I also have some excess points from achievements and three vision levels, if that helps.

Try to max out Fusion and Mana stream first, with these ones well you will level up very fast.
However try to keep about 1.5k skillpoints left over for apropiate build up at the start.
Currently i myself am at lvl 980 and have only about 99 fields unlocked.
I suggest you try some different form of setups.

In a run or two you'll get to ~1k and you'll be able to use this:

@SilentDeath666 Didn't even know that Fusion or any skills have a maximum. Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to keep a solid points supply free.

@12345ieee Going over some of the guide, it requires a huge increase in WL from where I am now. Feeling very noobish after just the first two sections. Thanks for linking it

The chain hit component is essential for improving the mana leeched by traps so you either need to unlock it or play on fields where it's already available (doesn't really matter which since the skill isn't worth investing points in anyway).

Mana farming is how you get lots of mana and mana stream does not affect mana leeched so it is not very good when mana farming and isn't a priority.

And leaving that many skill points unspent is extremely bad, especially since that many skill points is over half of what you have at level 300. With a mana farm and the correct skill setup, you can start with any amount of mana and it'll be fine which allows for more xp gain due to being stronger from having spent more skill points.

agreed. if I did my initial structure build, enraged a few early waves with the right gems and still have some spare mana, I quit the level and upgrade my relevant skills before going back. you won't need to start the match with a G18 if you invest skill points in a G6 that easily destroys the 1st 10 waves. you'll want to make sure your G18 can handle W120 instead (just an example from a WL 2k).

Edit: typo
