The story is different if you need to utilize GES though, since you want to enchant a g1 yellow gem as much as possible (to like millions of max damage) and then copy this gem to use in killgem recipes.
I haven't did this before but maybe you can build the smallest gem with red from the recipe. from your recipe and use it to farm hits instead. You don't need BB to farm hits, as you sum up total hits when combining gems so once your gem got BB it will automatically apply BB based on the gem's newest total hits
e.g. if the recipe is (y+r)+2y+3y+4y+5b (yes, this is just a basic 1r15y16b gem) you build the (y+r) to farm hits. then when you have the GES gem ready you make the 2y, 3y and 4y with this buffed gem and then combine the gems into the recipe. You only lose 1 buffed gem in the recipe at most and I believe the effect is not that large if you are using specs like 512s/1024s. And you can even just build another gem with all yellow gems being GES copies and then use these to combine with the gem with millions of hits.
This means that your power increase is: (41/23)^2 = 3.1x, a far cry from the e4 you want.
As for the GES case, I spent a substantial amount of time making GES recipes, wGC should have them with a lengthy explaination.
Also, when time to upgrade killgems, just use both in your upgrade (with wGC don't forget to start at step 2 in the combine) then duplicate it for a new gem for the tower. If enraging enough, the tower still shouldn't kill any monsters unless using beam but if it does you can also keep gem in tower at an upgrade below the gem in trap (example using wGC at +20 combine: trap gem g51 tower gem g31) then dupe the tower gem and upgrade the original to the same grade to add into the trap upgrade.
Keep the tower set to attack Random when not needed to attack buildings or flying ones since it builds more hits. Having a gem constantly in a tower, however, will increase game lag. I don't know if this is a good strategy or helps but at wave 300 in my last battle I had a trapped killgem with almost 900 billion hits.
I have yet to play a serious endurance run on a field with a GES, but i'm looking forward to it.
