It allows you to earn mech part from earlier zones by killing mobs in later ones.
Say your missing Mech 1 part 2 but you can kill stuff in normal universe what you do is go into mech list select the missing part and hit the button to farm that while killing normal mode mobs.

you can only select the unobtained area if the place you are killing enemy in is obtained. e.g. after obtaining the light year perk in mech #3, you can remain in that map and farm any other squares below you, even areas in Mech #1 or 32.

in the past you have go back to low level enemies in order to farm the perk

Bottom left of the QOL upgrades (second tab in the AM shop).

Cheers. That square is currently locked behind SN#2 for me(only just triggered #1 so be a while before I get there lol).

EDIT -----------------------

It is SN2+ and requires 25K AM. Not cheap but very worth it.

Cheer everyone for the info and good to know the cost as that will require a bit of saving up for. Get most of my mech parts through offline farming(pc runs like a jet engine when the game is active) so something like this will allow more active farming efficiently.

EDIT 2 ------------------

Just noticed you get 20K AM for triggering SN#2 so not having to hold back as much as I thought.
