Great suspense, but the "weeping" dinosaur was at the start of that section, then when I died, it was immediately at the previous death location. Then after another death, it was non-existant. Not sure if intended to have a TImer for it before Hunting. Also, embrace it more. If for any reason it is a main-stay dino, utilize it more, even in the demo. The area directly after passing the gate was just empty. Having either IT, or a new dino that is blind but reacts to sound aggressively in a section full of branches and twigs would be very tense.
Also, as a fan of horror and scary games, the music ON POINT, the suspense is great, however with the random dinosaur sounds that are right on top of you, doesn't make sense. Sounds like this need to make sense. If it is not in front of me, make it distant. Nothing like hearing an echoing roar in the distance, the exact place I need to go. There was a sound for the dinosaur in the tunnel to the right of the ribcage, but even a jumpscare sound like that should be followed with a chasing music or hunting music. Even if the intent is not for the player to die. But make me feel like I got to get the F out of there and fast.
Overall,
I love where this is headed, I will be waiting for the full game!
-optimization ( i have an i5 and 1660 6 gb. not very strong build but even on medium the fps slightly drops in some places )
-work on the player finding the way without so many prompts ( maybe use them as current objectives instead ) ( instead of using prompts to turn the player around in areas where they want to explore, maybe put a small collectible or something to reward them for exploring )
-maybe add an animation for when the character is almost out of stamina. could help the player manage stamina better. For example, i ran almost all the time during my playthrough and i could've easily run into of the dinosaurs, just saying. By having an animation for this I can manage my stamina and prevent those type of situations. Could improve the gameplay by a lot.
-definetely work on the flashlight, i can barely see the light when i use it
Other than, no idea for the moment. But the atmosphere is great, loved the foggy area. Played it on my girlfriend's account but will both wishlisht it. Waiting for the full release, congrats on your work!
The first and the one that bothered me the most was that my character would have some stuttering movement when crouching so I found myself avoiding crouching at all.
The second was that the map felt very empty. Just some random tools thrown around on tables and safety posters on the walls would help make the world more lived in. More than that would be better but it would be a start.
The third is that I would have liked to have an option in the menu to open up a page for the controls. I didn't even notice the controls were in the top right until I was almost done with the demo.
One other small complaint were the invisible walls preventing us from going places. I didn't mind the first one after we first see the helicopter because our character tells us to not go through yet but later on towards the end there is a tunnel with a dinosaur eating someone and it felt like we might be able to sneak past but the invisible wall prevents us. It was kinda immersion breaking. Having like a barricade or something would have been better.
Also not really a complaint but maybe add some sort of collectible. There were lots of empty areas to explore and it was always disappointing. Adding like scientist notes about the dinosaurs that we can find occasionally would encourage the player to explore more.
Fun demo nonetheless. Very interesting idea. The sound design was really well done. I'm a big fan of Jurassic park and I feel like you nailed the feel of being trapped with a bunch of dinosaurs on the loose. Looking forward to the full game!
- Head bobbing is in fact very good but the horizon should not move at all if you know what I mean. It doesn't IRL.
- Black message boxes unnecessary and in fact annoying... Maybe a help key when not know what to do.
- Cinema bars, why? Please make optional!
Very promising, thank you for making this.
there is nothing at all about the game its really unique and well made .....4,7/5
The atmosphere is amazing, and it does give off that "anything could happen at any moment" and nervous looking behind me to see if I need to run vibe that I love, though one issue I ran into with that was:
1) The game was quite laggy, I do have an older gaming laptop, though it can run plenty of other games well. (i.e.: path of titans, the isle, ffxiv, fortnite, apex legends; which are all pretty taxing games graphics wise). I lowered the settings to low, and still had some stuttering issues/fps drops.
I'm not sure if it's due to textures used, the fog or just the density of the game, but some of the textures had a hard time loading in and even on low it was causing a lot of the lag I was experiencing.
2) The Compsognathus part worked as intended, or at least I believe it did. Due to the lag of the game and the density of the fog it was hard to tell where they were at all but I did get through it with relative ease by listening, though, maybe for those who cannot rely on hearing them maybe the fog density should be looked into. I did like the nervousness of the stealth aspect though!
3) Tickle Chicken... It gave me chills when I ran into it, but those initial chills and the fear I felt was very quickly ruined by frustration and slight disappointment when I realized that it's core mechanic was bugged. The weeping angel mechanic for the Therizinosaurus seems to have been broken, and whenever I dropped down into the arena it felt like it was an angry long-fingered heat seeking missile. I tried a few times to lure it away from the "spawn" area, but it would immediately kill me. After trying a few times and comparing it to videos of content creators on YT, I do believe it's just a genuine bug.
Other than those few grievances, the game has such an amazing concept, I love the atmosphere and the apprehension it provides. I do feel like with needed tweaks it'll be fantastic. I'll keep an eye out for any updates/hot fixes so I can get my full experience of the DEMO if you choose to do so
-we got lost and spent 2 hours at first to get down to the lab, the environment doesn't give the player any hint where to go whatsoever , I get that it's a parking lot but a little map on the wall with an X isn't really sufficient, we were 2 playing together and we got extremely frustrated - even because this is the beginning part of the game so there is no dino around.
-the part in the lab, I'd need a bit more explanation on whats going on here? I get the guy's talking but it's not enough, this dude literally goes in a lab-basement with flickering light alone and gets in the MRI machine... why would you do it knowing you'd get stuck? Also if you're someone like me who forgets withing 5 second of reading what I just read the whole thing doesn't make a bit of sense. I would add some kind of notebook or something in the room with some explanation of research, data yadda yadda this guy is doing giving it a context that is idiot proof.
- every time you restart at the teriz it sees you immediately making it super hard, let me walk down the platform at least before triggering it pls.
-STAMINA, I've heard this guy breathing so heavily so often this could have become a pegi 18.
How are dinos not hearing this guy? Also it's slightly annoying having this happen so often.
Also I would add some small UI for it because I never know when I'm finishing it.
I get the surprise and fear environment BUT gameplay-wise instead of fear it gives me tons of anger, the time of run is set so low a player could literally count 1 to 5 to calculate how much he could run.
I would like knowing when I'm about to finish stamina/I'm recovering it and how much,,,
-the flashlight it's way too weak and despite trying to use in the pitch dark it could do nothing.
-sounds are a bit late sometimes, I heard a bang and then a deer flying after awhile.
- a map (even when you pause the game) could be beneficial
If I would add anything to this game it would be elevator doors. Graphics are very good. Needs more optimization for graphics and less crow noises. I added this to my wish list and followed #yourwelcome.
The atmosphere truly captures "The Mist" vibes, where uncertainty reigns, and no one knows what's happening.
It runs perfectly on my RTX 5090 and i9-14900K, with no graphical issues—stellar performance overall!
Areas for Improvement:
The walking movements of the main character and dinosaurs could feel smoother.
Dinosaur textures could use some enhancement for added realism.
Great job, @Mendesz! Count me among the people who will be supporting your work—keep it up!
first found this demo after seeing a YouTube short on it and it looked very enticing. I do not do well with horror games, especially jump scare games but I love Dinos so i thought why the hell not, here is my feedback:
- The fog is very thick. I know this is intentional but it reduced the frame rate quite a lot so I had to play on low.
- This game would do great as a semi-open world game, but with it being as linear as it is now, a mission record and some sort of navigational tool would be greatly appreciated. My play time was 47 minutes and that was largely running around in the open forest after the Therizinosaurus maze just trying to find the next objective after it said "Objective: Get out of here".
- Loved the atmosphere. As i already said I do awfully with horror games and the ambience and setting in this one had me crouch walking the entire game and hugging walls lie they were about to leave me. The lack of actual scares and chase scenes was probably beneficial for this demo as it added to the feeling of fearing the unknown. Definitely need more intense moments and chase scenes in the full version.
- Stamina was an issue for me. This game feels a lot like Phasmophobia with how it treats stamina. Because of the lack of stamina bar, the amount of stamina felt inconsistent. I could not tell how much i had at a given time, how fast it recharged, what the maximum was, etc. It would be nice to have some indication either as a bar on a UI symbol
- When pausing, I noticed the control for a flashlight, but when pressing the button to activate it, nothing happened. Not sure if this was a bug on my end but there was no visible change in light level.
- Lastly, my biggest feedback is that this game was thoroughly enjoyable. I loved almost every second of my 50 minute journey and was at the edge of my seat for most of it as well. Your control of ambiance and incitement of fear in the player is a marvel. I will also be leaving some suggestions for the full build of the game in the other pinned discussion. Loved this Demo and can't wait for the full game!
