Should I see the movie before playing this...
...or will I enjoy the game that much more going in un-watched?

Yes, but to really understand it, you must watch movies in that order. The Thing (2011) it's a prequel, then switch to The Thing (1982) and finally, a sequel The Thing (2002) (2024) this game

You don't have to, but the first few sections of the game are references to it. You play a character who is investigating what happened in the movies at the start. He didn't take part in the events of the movies so he only gets to see the aftermath of what happened at those areas.

Most of the game takes place in areas not in the movies.

If you want to have the full picture of what happened in those initial areas you'll have to watch the movies.

I would recommend it simply because they are good movies. At least the 1982 version just to get "in the mood".

The Thing From Another World 1951 North Pole Adaption of the book Who goes there? DVD and Blu-Ray

The Thing 1982 South Pole -Again adaption of the same book above, but overshadowed by the fingering loving alien known as E.T not the same as the 1951 as they both have different locations. VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K

The Thing 2011... I shall not get into that one, but I'd just give it a watch anyway, prequel to the 1982 "THE F IS LARS." Lars is the norse goat, A GOAT! DVD and Blu-Ray

The Thing From Another World comics based around the Thing 1982 not the vegetable alien of the 1951, they release another comic with the vikings... which again like the 2011 is questionable.

Books and audio books of Who goes there? -Frozen Hell which added stuff from the lost manuscript.

Also a fan fic I think of the The Things perspective floating around.

Don't have to but I recommend you do anyway. One of my favourite films of all time.

You should absolutely watch the movie. Playing the game is optional.

Watch the movie, play game after reflecting on the movie

The movie is amazing, and really sets the atmosphere of the game since its considered a direct sequel to the 1982 movie.

You should watch the 1982 movie simply because it's one of the best movies ever made. It's my favorite horror movie of all time. I would consider it required viewing before playing the game.

Weeeeeeeelll if you put things like that i would recommand you watch the classic one, in the 60s or something then watch the prequel wich is the most recent one and after that watch the best one:)
Surprisingly enough, all 3 of them are cool movies, the most recent one is anoying because they added women just for the sake of it and they played bad roles

The prequel is definitely the worst entry in the franchise, but I don't hate it as much as many people do... except for the fact that the studio forced them to overlay terrible CGI on top of their actually quite good practical effects because the film looked, quote, "too 80s" to the execs. One of the reasons the 1982 stands the test of time so well is because it used entirely practical effects, and they were damn good thanks to Rob Bottin.

The 1951 film is a good watch, but it's not in the same league as the 1982 film IMO. It's much more loosely based on the original novel (Who Goes There? / Frozen Hell) and it hasn't aged as gracefully, but it's still a good film.

I firmly believe that if you havent watched the movie yet, you shoukd stop whatever it is you are doing and go watch it now.
