That is so disappointing to hear. But thank you for answering.
My understanding is that they are...
I've seen multiple videos of NPC's bursting out even after having been tested on this "remaster". It's quite sad.
They fixed it although in the simplest possible way. Now your teammates with negative blood test results only transform if they are bitten by the things. This contradicts the movie plot since infection needed many hours to take over human body. Here it works almost instantaneous like Flood infection forms from Halo games. But it's still better than what we got in the 2002 game.
The engineer who you send to unlock a door just before the gas chamber also still goes Thing, but this seems to have been changed from a scripted burst out to him simply running into a room full of headcrabs and you being unable to save him because you're several rooms away due to the puzzle.
All others have been removed. I've played through the entire game and managed to get every squad member who wasn't already the Thing as far as they can go without any burst outs (with a little saving/loading to avoid infection burst outs).
NPCs can still turn Thing if they take hits. The medic in the airport seems to have maybe a 20%-30% chance of turning Thing because he gets smacked by a Thing when you meet him.
Traps have also been added where a bunch of the headcrab things burst out of a corpse when a specific NPC walks near it. These traps seem to mostly be placed where the NPC would go Thing automatically in the original game, however they can be dealt with if you're fast enough.
This can be clearly seen just before the first boss fight. In the og game, Collins turns into a monster on the staircase. In the remaster, either by headcrabs bursting out the body in the corridor leading to the boss, or in the boss room, where he is 100% guaranteed to be attacked there.
