Any good?
I remember watching the full lets play back in the day.

Any thoughts on it generating enough money for someone to pick up and make more additions to the IP?

You aren't missing much to be honest. I've played all iterations of the game from PS2, Xbox, PC and the remaster on GOG and there isn't anything to me that feels like a major change, yeah it has had a lick of paint and spruce up, mostly minute things that don't really make feel like a remaster to actually fix the game to be what could it be as so much in this remaster is botched beyond compare.

Fear system is meh as is the trust, as they went all out on the 'Infection' aspect and that is primarily for the scripted events that stopped NPCS moving on and a tweak on the infection values, would have better if it moved over to the soldiers you fight later on, instead they die and melt away.

Foundation is there, but it needed a ground up rebuild which I don't think we will ever see, let alone a sequel.

Ammo/Weapons/Items are plentiful where they shouldn't be, item placements conflict such as flare and torches, you aren't going to use a flare if you have a torch. Same goes for the blowtorch and flamethrower... it's a no-brainer and having doubles of everything makes you feel like a pack rat.

If you love, love, love "The Thing," then give it a go and go on a nostalgia fest to your hearts content, if not... just wait for a sale or just stick to a lets play.

I second this.
The fact they have not made a social deduction game based on this IP has got to be the biggest mistake for the IP.

I think it would be good to get it out there. But I think I'd rather a single player maybe a Co-op installment first. But I agree with you a hundred percent a well done social deduction game would put it on the map for a lot of people who may have never even heard of it. Which is kinda what marketing is about eh?

It sucked in 2002, and their announcement to remastering it confused everyone

i enjoyed the original but from what i hear while they added some nice quality of life changes like a hud that tells you when to burn them but also made the game really really easy compared to the original if they add a original mode cut down the ammo and make it as hard as the original i would probably buy on sale.

You mean every one who bought it and gave a positive review? How could they enjoy a game that sucks? Yes, very confused, indeed.

It was a bargain bin game back then and even now simply for a movie tie in as they did a DVD reprint that had the game cover for the film, but even something that is bad can still be loved and hated.

But this is a so called "Remaster" that is so far from that title they might as well dubbed it a PS3 era HD release, they took a working 2002 that still runs on new hardware and slapped it with a thin coat of paint and botched the whole system of the difficulty with higher item/ammo values of claiming the infection system rework as its whole gimmick ignoring trust and fear...

If they can move the flamethrower from the kitchen in the radio room level to the mess hall, then that proves they could have actually balanced the game, instead they didn't... they increased the ammo, health to a point it became a joke and you became a pack rat with so many guns you the embodiment of American freedom in Antarctica.

Also you can collect five flashlights... five flashlights... at least you won't be in the dark.

Thanks for the history lesson, but is there a point in there somewhere? I couldn't find one.

History lesson removed, oh wait... it was one paragraph.

This is about as close as you're going to get. It's The Thing in all but name.

There is also SurvHive but I think that game has been dead for a while.

Thanks! Now it's one paragraph shorter, albeit still pointless.

You have your opinion and I have mine, but this game is just what remasters should not be.

Simple off question -Also you can collect five flashlights... five flashlights...

Nothing from you has added any substance at all, just "albeit still pointless."

So in your same rhetoric, a game that is a REMASTER not OG 1:1 re-release of the base code, still has junk ideas in a REMASTER is... roll on the imaginary drums "albeit still pointless."

All the best.
