of course they push them on gamers - theyre more expensive! but theyre designed for work, not gaming. and thats never going to change, because developer has to make the game twice. every fpp has to be remodeled in terms of fov experience. and every other game has to have a separate ui and hud, thats a lot of work for developers.
and whats worse, such a game will never be good, because human eyes doesnt cover entire ultrawide screen. so basically developers are forced to make an additional mode, for a few idiots who bought monitors for work. a similar situation was with vr a few years ago, where for every game there was a thread like this - "make a game in vr!"
such monitors are only good for simulators, but even then its probably better to have three smaller ones, because you can set them at a greater angle, so that they give the illusion of a side window in planes and cars.
Most games. The reason people ask is because some have spotty support at best.
Stuff on Unreal Engine is the main cause of why they ask as it has a horrible history of cropping the image vertically to make a fake 21:9.
However some Unreal Engine games support it just fine. Its really up to the developer of the game. Trouble is players seldom know if the game has "fake" support or proper support until it comes out and someone confirms.
I'd say go for it. The vast majority of games these days support it just fine. There's no going back to 16:9 after owning one. Its just better.
I use ultrawide and I have no doubt The Thing will be optimised for it
I wouldn’t worry
What in Reddit is this diatribe?
"Make the game twice"
"human eyes doesnt cover entire ultrawide screen"
lol what? Next you're gonna tell me that 30fps is cinematic and 60fps is 'too fast.'
I've used ultrawide monitors for 11 years now and while some games don't, or don't fully support it most have at least ultrawide support during gameplay.
I use mine (5120 x 1440, 49")for work and it is a massive productivity booster, I could not live without it.
Most games I own support it, even old ones like ESO. Now and then I find a game I want but doesn't support 32:9 and I sometimes do not bother with The game. If it's a game I love I'll buy it, most games have SW mods, if not I just live with the black bars, you just tune them out.
I would never go back to old school screen area, neither for work or games. One of my most rewarding purchases.
