crafting recipes

am i failing to notice something, or is it that i must butcher hordes of enemies and quest to get a recipe and finally craft something? i seem to have gathered a few items(and emptied my "loot" tab into the shop a couple of times, with some items that imply having crafting value being sold too)

There's 2 methods:
1) Butcher hordes of animals, plants and bugs for a recipe and then continue to butcher dozens more for the parts
2) Collect elenium in the PvP zones and make every effort to survive long enough to get out with some. Buy recipe from PvP shops and then butcher hordes for the crafting parts.
