Steam Achievements not working under Linux (Proton)

Hi guys,

I'm more just posting this on here in case someone knows a quick solution, or if the developer/s happen to take an interest in looking into it (I'm aware installing this game/mod on Linux/Steam Deck isn't officially supported yet).

Anyway, the problem:
For me, running this game on Linux through Proton is having issues with Steam Achievements. At first, when I clicked on ACHIEVEMENTS in the main menu it would just have a pop-up box stating that Steam wasn't logged in.
Now, after changing the version of Proton, the ACHIEVEMENTS option in the main menu does load up the list of achievements (so that's fixed).

However, the achievements still don't activate, despite them listing from the main menu. The console outputs the following when earning one (e.g. killing multiple zombies with the axe in one swing):

Achievements disabled: Steam not running.
Achievements disabled, ignoring achievement progress for ACHIEVEMENT_NH2_AXE_MULTIKILL


For good measure, I've tested Half-Life 2 both natively on Linux and through Proton and its achievements are working, so that can apparently connect to the Steam client properly. I'm not sure what's going on with this game. Also, I tried another Source Mod listed on Steam, Estranged: Act I, and its achievements also worked (however, that did have an option to natively run it under Linux; i.e. not use Proton. So perhaps that has something to do with it).

Same problem for me i use Manjaro LInux under Proton 7 other versions of Proton won't work for me because my pc is too old....i just discovered this mod and it's very good...

I'm glad to hear it's not just me 😅

As for newer versions of Proton, I also had a problem with using them with some Source games/mods (including this one). What I found is that it's a resolution problem, and if I use Proton 7 when launching the game for the first time, I can then set the resolution in the in-game settings, and then newer versions of Proton will launch.

I'm not sure if this is your exact problem, or if you want to fix it, but you mentioning it reminded me of doing this fix for this mod specifically, so I thought I should say. :)
