Stranded

Stranded

I liked the game
Since the store page has 30% positive reviews I thought I should let you know ..

I think people just expected a game and not a pure aesthetic expereince. Although I admire the artistic choice perhaps it needed some commentary to please the average gamer.

If people knew that there were no puzzles to solve they probably would not feel frustrated looking for them

Nice music and art, cool ending ;)

^^ happy to see that I am not the only one who enjoyed the game.
I have to admit that I partly think not warning the player is kind of the point here, to leave him stranded and to make him reflect a bit on how he consumes his games.
Not sure if I think that is a good thing, but with this price I do not see it as something bad or despciable^^

You can also try Murder by same developer, it kind of has the same "problems"
It used to cost $10 or $12.

Dev here, super happy you guys liked it, and yes we absolutely tried to take the criticism constructively - I was 18/19 when I made Stranded, and entirely self-taught. We also had a very, very small budget.

We never felt we'd misrepresented the game - what's odd for me is that I'm someone who has always played games, but doesn't play *a ton* of games, I've always wanted my work to be considered more in the same vein as say taleoftales stuff (though imo they are nothing short of visionary auteurs and I wouldn't invite the comparison), but I also have a great love for traditionally game-y systems and aesthetics, and sadly I think the odd combination of these things meant a lot of people felt cheated when it wasn't what they expected.

We tried to do something that was a happier compromise with Murder, but still had no real budget, and the steam refunds policy killed our plan to fund free episodic updates with any profits. You can read about that on the game's discussions.

I guess we'll see if my next game is game-y enough for people to like while still satisfying my own desire to make something unusual/experimental.

Just got around to playing it.

Wow. The story (told almost without words) is the puzzle.

DISCLAIMER: I looked for spoilers before starting -- and I'm glad I did. It's because of this, I ended up understanding and appreciating the story, ending the game on a good note the first try.

Oh, and I didn't pay much for the game -- that was the other thing.
A follow up.

Played the other game too now. Also very cool. Didn't want this kind of style to end.

There is more to say on the matter and how I wish things turned out differently... perhaps some other time.

I love this game too - it seems like people expected to see a quest, not an art-house 2D walking simulator, so they got angry (and because at first the game was too expensive for a little art-project; 0.90$ is a much better deal, especially in a bundle with Murder). As for me - based on a bad reviews, I expected much less out of Stranded, but actually it was short but really awesome.

Just finished the game in 2020 and I enjoyed it as well! Of course it helps I got it for less than a dollar via humble... guess I might be salty too if I paid more than that. I was skeptical because of the negative reviews, but glad I went for it. The pixel art is gorgeous, the music is cool, and it was a fun little side diversion to click around in while I worked on writing my dissertation! Took me a few minutes to realize there is literally nothing to do but click around to travel through screens, but once I figured that out, I got into a groove with it.

I am still so sad to this day that Murder didn't get completed. That game also had beautiful pixel art and music.

Just wanted to stop by and say I also loved this game. Have been sorting through my steam library and have a lot of garbage games I got for free that I need to sort through and eventually got to this game. Saw the reviews and thought it was going to be another garbage trading card farming game, but loved the art so I gave it a try.

The story was amazing, the art is amazing, the atmosphere and ambiance is amazing. As someone who loves pixel art, mystery, and everything to do with space and life on other planets this was really a perfect game for me.

Thank you for making this!! I hope eventually it reaches the right audience and the steam reviews can accurately reflect the quality of this experience :)

I wish I had refunded both half-assed paid demos for games he never planned to actually develop. A waste of time.

There are far better free, full games from much nicer ppl on the AGS site.
