Do civil war ends by itself?

Good day, I m actually the king of troy and I d like to know if the civil war will end after a certain number of turns or if i will have to defeat all the pretenders in order to conclude it. Do you know any way to avoid civil wars?

Sometimes you can avoid civil wars by adopting the strongest pretender and making him heir to the Kingdom.

The civil wars have a timer, but more time gets added on each time another pretender joins.
