Hardest start locations?
What are the hardest factions in the game? minor or major. I have an itch for some really difficult starting locations.

Probably Rameses, that dude gets no break!
All the Canaanites except Alashiya are hard. Same goes for Hatti except Kurunta. Alashiya has that island while the others are surrounded.

Elam is pretty terrible as a faction, but at least you're stuck in the corner.
AH... I love hard ons.... Suppi used to be tough. Might have changed now.
Ramses is very hard

low influence and thus public order penalties everywhere since they aren't mesopotamians. You have ti build deellings and temples of Inshusinak everywhere. Bad faction units except for poison archers and armor breaking slingers., which you need a tier 4 settlement for.

Influence has no effect on public order.

I would argue that Irsu is one of the best starting factions. He's in a great position to expand anywhere and he can pick and choose which Canaanites to ally or conquer. He can also get a ridiculous amount of resources from post-battle/settlements to make up for what he can't upgrade.
I think Setnakhte is one of the worst. I really wish it wasn't. He's in the Western Desert, Libu constantly attack you and you're between empty desert and just outside the Nile. I would recommend killing the Libu but Lower Egypt factions tend to declare war on you. His son Ramesses III has also a terrible place, being caught between Canaan and Egypt.

Apparently Elam are bad because of their units being too bad but haven't tried them yet.

I heard the same about Elam lol, they do get horses tho I think

PS: Verified, they get horse archers even!

elam was already specified as having only good low to mid tier units in the blog, I like them, but that is for the same reason I liked scythia in rome 1: it is better to fight tier 1/2 with tier 3 than to fight tier 3/4 with tier 5. by the time tier 4 isn't enough you are already in a bad position
Thrace is pretty hard. No early access to bronze, difficult diplomacy due to cultural differences with the Acheans and the Trojans... Their only advantage is an easy access to a gold mine island.

I got attacked as Thrace by four separate armies from four separate countries on the same turn as Thrace. This was on normal/normal diff with all the AI settings turned down to lowest in campaign settings.

they have Assur Horse Archers, the same as Hanigalbat and Assyria.
Ramses is hard compared to other egyptians, but he gets access to all 5 resources fairly quickly, and in my opinion Cannaan infantry are better than Egypt local recuits, so once you get chariots you can easily deal with canaans and Egyptians.
Senakhte also dies so fast its easy to steal his court position.
