Player names above head. Take it away!
This is going to be a huge problem I feel like. It takes away the stealth from the game.
Example: I see someone in the distance walking towards my way. I hide in a nearby bush. As he walks by, has no idea that I am even there but just happens to be free looking, he sees my name instantly pop up. Big issue. For names to pop up at all they should be breathing up my nose. Maybe even also if in combat take the names away for a period of time. Either way this needs to be solved.

Keep names above head on PVE Servers. Take them away on PVP Servers.

Perhaps they can edit it so that nametages only appear in the PvE rulesets, or perhaps make it so that there are no nametags in Hardcore. I personally didn't even notice it, but now going back and watching some streams it does seem a little obvious, but perhaps it might be better once we get to play the game.

Yeah I just thought of the PVE idea when you posted. Was the same for me I just really noticed how noticeable the names are and in some moments of the game it could really ruin the experience.

This would be a big problem, could it be possible they had them only for the streams, so players could identify who else is playing? If not, I would hope they would take it off.

I think the name plates right now appear when you're about 2 meters away from the players? But I'm not sure about will the name popup when you're hiding behind some box or not. Maybe this is something they can fix. About the rulesets I think they've mentioned about having this kind of ruleset where the nameplates wont be shown at all.

It's quite possible since we haven't been able to see any gameplay of the latest QA builds and only the main server (Jimmy Whisenhunt was streaming from the office from 11:30pm to 1am waiting to test the latest QA build and he said multiple times that it's much more advanced than the main build that they have been showcasing).

That sounds promising. If it is a stronger build, that means we haven't seen the real game, just a base build.. Hopefully we get an answer to this question.

In real life you can recognise people from a fair distance just by their general stance, their build, the way they walk and their face. I find it extremely silly and annoying when games have no easy way to Identify people you know in game just by looking at them.

Dayz suffered from the whole "I can't recognise my friends even when they are 2 foot away from me" sillyness.

A easy way to prevent the names from giving away a players position is to make it so names only show when you "spot" the player using a hotkey when hovered over that player such as the spotting system in Planetside 2.

A PS2 name spotting system would work great for both PVP and PVE servers.

One of the worst things about Dayz Sa for me was that I couldn't tell the name of the hackers that murdered me.

When you die or you kill another player it says Who killed you, or who you killed on the top of your screen.

Well that is the way it should be imo. That coupled with global admins is just one of the things that will keep H1 from becoming a hack fest.

Hopefully that, and the fact that they seem to have a decent in-house anti-cheat that they use in Planetside.
