Game won't open

I've downloaded the game, and I'm ready to relive my childhood. But the game won't open. A black window appears, and it looks like it's going to start, but it closes and nothing happens. I've tried updating Windows and a few other things suggested, but it hasn't worked.

Any suggestions?

To get it to play on Steam you'll have to edit the "scummvm-puttputtsavesthezoo.ini" file. On Win XP it's located in:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Putt-Putt 3\ScummVM_Windows

Note: on 64-bit versions of Windows you'll have to replace the "C:\Program Files" above with "C:\ Program Files (x86)".

Double-click on the file and it will open with Notepad. Change "gfx_mode=gl2" to "gfx_mode=auto" (without the quotes) and it should work, because that's the default setting.

If it still doesn't work, try changing "fullscreen=true" to "fullscreen=false" (without the quotes).

To fix an audio error message, I had to change "music_driver=windows_Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" to "music_driver=auto" (again without the qoutes).

Hope this helps. All the Humongous games seem to have these crash problems on some computers.

I tried to open it the way max34 said, and received the same issue where the game wouldn't launch. In order for me to get it going I had to open ScummVM (from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Putt-Putt3\ScummVM_Windows) and choose "Add Game". I then went to the Putt-Putt 3 folder (so I had to go up a folder; C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Putt-Putt3) and it allowed me to add the game. I rinsed/repeated with all the other Putt-Putt games (I downloaded them all). Then you launch the game from ScrummVM (and not from Steam). This was the only way I was able to get it to work, and it works well once completed that way.
