Also,
Product pricing is generally calculated at how much profit u get. IT DOESNT MEAN its the best choice because sometimes you buy/sell a lot of product in bulk and so u find profits (like rations have a large lower value limit of 54 when selling after which i dont see it going much lower. But this is 54 vs base price of 50 so its really not worth it unless your trying to get all the money from a city).
When buying/selling check out your route and see if there are multiple cities needing or selling the same items. If thats the case then buy/sell just some of your items taking into account their BUY/SELL price and then sell the rest at the next city. I could sell rations twice at 62.0 (for example) at one city and then again at that price at the next city, giving me overall higher profits which the game profit calculation doesnt do well for you :) . A good business man doesnt look at higher quantity since you have limited capacity to carry the best rate items.
Bounties are not worth the rewards at the moment
2. You can buy ammo through trades, supply cache around the map, trading with random caravan (you can get 40 ammo for 50 scrap which is fun) while you travel and searching ruins. Its not the most profitable item to buy/sell but its very much a necessary item for gun ammunition so I would recommend you buy then and there when you find profits and then deposit them in Starlight city (below the mountain ridge from Taranis) for their defences and so you can get them when you run low on them. Also lots of molotovs, flash bangs and stun grenades. Legendary quality throwables O.o
3.
First priority - Appetite. Try to keep attack stat to a max of 9. Higher attack crew usually have big appetites and feeding them becomes a chore (atleast initially). You might find the game much more fun if their appetites dont go above 3-4. Pets not worth imo initially but buy them so you can equip them on your defenders in your city garrison. Your city folk never need to eat or sleep XD
Second Priority - Fitness is an important stat that you cant naturally increase after initial character setting. The more fitness, the lesser fatigue increase for your driver. In fact driver fatigue is calculated as
Total Fatigue = 13 - (Truck Comfort) - Driver Fitness
Try to look out for the guys with fitness 3-4 who have appetite at 2-3 ... that would be cool if you get fitness 4 and appetite 2 crewmate.
And then these -
The higher your crafting/cooking skill the higher the chance to get legendary versions of items which is VERY USEFUL (especially crafting). higher quality guns can fire more rounds and higher quality gun parts have greater accuracy etc. etc. (legendary bomb suit gives 120 defence?)
Initially you dont need much defence stat for your character. maybe 10 is enough XD. Rest you get with clothing so you can prevent random wounding. And yes to anyone else reading this. If you dont have much defence (like if your wearing only fitness clothing), apparently you can get wounded in melee EVEN if you attack first. Its something i am encountering a lot more after past updates. Have atleast 80% defence
Look for crewmates with high intellect or crafting (whichever skill complements your crews skills). Dont make your crew a simple jack of all trades gang. Later levels (after 20 it increases by one every level up ;.; )
As for traits, crewmates with bloodthirsty and violent are good for zombie encounters which happen a lot. My primary hero crewmate has EX Racer and Night driver so at night they can drive (10+10) 20% faster... which is very good because the faster your travel the lesser fuel you use each time interval fuel is consumed for the distance travelled..
And yea, for initial hire mission if u dont find a decent crewmate in first city bar, just get a temp crew mate for cheap from labor market in bar and then fire them. Just remember not to have any mission quest items in inventory as fired crew steal some stuff including MISSION CRITICAL items... which should be fixed by devs
4. Crafting - Read above (Point 2), bars, random caravans, ruins etc. scavengeable sites
5. Yea discord isnt exactly right. Attack skill is primarily used for melee. So you can get the following
Attack - 9 (give them good melee katanas.. legendary katana will give 19 attack). Try to get to crafting the lawnmower truck utility item so you get nice attack boost for melee. Generally I try to get enemies atleast 50% below my total melee stat before i decide to end their miserable lives. The smaller you make the enemy group the lower their accuracy.. Although people love to just kill people completely with guns to avoid any risks
Focus - Keep increasing. Gives you accuracy for guns. I usually have around 25 and its good enough
Crafting/Cooking/Intellect - I usually level up crafting and cooking and leave the intellect to another crewmate I can hire (nerds.. with lower attack stat means they can also have low appetite). Always check your crew button at bottom right. Some skills like crafting take into account only highest crafting skill of 1 crew for the entire group. So if you get a better crafter, stop crafting skill increases on your main (if you levelling crafting and cooking for main)
Additional tips -
1. Cities with higher faction rating towards you give better Scrap to creds rate exchange. The best rate is in Starlight etc. cities you can own once you upgrade your defences to max. (1.3%).
2. Banks are good to exchange if your creds are just accumulating and you dont need it all. Every 3000 scrap deposited gives you 3 scrap interest every day. Im generating around 200 every day so yea im good XD... but i need more (money! .. yummy money!)
3. Pets are good on characters you can focus husbandry on. Say you get a falcon that increases focus. It gives you bonus focus in a 1:1 ratio, so
Focus - 20
Husbandry - 20
Falcon Powa!
Total Focus - 40
Appetite increase due to hungry falcon - +1 (not too much appetite pet :) )
Nice!
4. How you upgrade your truck is upto you but i would recommend starting a new play with the new FAST truck after you have travelled 10000km and got the achievement (wanderer? i forgot) which unlocks the other 2 trucks for u. Nothing like Lightning Mcqueen of trucks to get you places and fast. Just remember to focus upgrade truck capacity and your engine after that (atleast till the first hp +1 upgrade)
2 You buy/sell ammo like other trade goods. It's not craftable. Always buy some ammo
3 it's a hint, not a mandatory quest. Often there is no one decent to hire, or at all.
You can just finish this "quest" later.
Hire crew that makes sense and fits your existing crew. You don't want infighting. You do want complementary skills.
Also, check your team skills menu. Learn which skills are pooled, averaged, or individual.
Attack and Foraging are additive, but Speech is averaged among all crew. Scouting and Crafting are individual, the best person does the job.
4 You can buy junk in bars or from junk traders. Take your time, you will have crafting materials coming out of your ears, just not in the early game.
5 Because of diminishing returns it is almost imposible to level up two skills. So each person should do one job.
Focus helps you scout random encounters and avoid the deadly ones. Cooking gives access to quality meals that reduce stress. Crafting is obvious. Intelect is also, but less obvious is that once you unlock everything, you don't need a researcher anymore so that person can be temporary, or hired later.
Attack is not very important. Good weapons and equipment will raise it anyway.
Foraging is useful, hunting/fishing less so but fun.
Speech is hella important. The average of everyone's speech is used so you really want to make sure you don't have people with bad speech in your team. It affects everything.
Husbandry is situational. It affect the bonus provided by pets and the best pets are parrot and falcon, giving a bonus to speech and focus. Raise husbandry when it's still cheap and you can crank up the bonus!
Certain clothes also raise Charm and Speech, and they're far more useful than combat gear (though you can change clothes before going into heavy combat).
With skills, you probably want a team of specialists. Try that, but remember NOT to screw up team harmony. People with conflicting traits, or a high disparity in Speech or Virtue will almost certainly not get along.
Speaking of traits, once skills are high it is better to spend skill points on good traits and removing bad traits.
tip
When buying, pay attention to the price as you change the amount you buy. As soon as the price starts to go up, stop.
If you do this, you will always buy at the cheapest possible price.
When selling, consider that most towns will not buy a lot from you unless you drop the price massively. And also that most towns have limited funds with which to buy.
So in addition to buy low/sell high, remember to buy very little and buy it very low. That way you will always make a profit when selling, and wont be stuck with a lot of goods you cannot shift.
Also, look into crafting cargo capacity, and horsepower upgrades (for weather and terrain). Nothing more annoying than slowly crawling along with an overloaded truck in bad weather.
Btw.. crew disparity has not till now caused issues for me. Just cook good food (check other stress reduction threads I have explained there as well) and keep them happy and u good
Speech, hunting, foraging, fishing tend to use the average for the party. So I usually raise it on everyone until like 10-20, then I might have someone specialized in it at really high levels. Just so they don't drag the average down too badly. You also get the most increase per point at low levels.
After that I just put stuff in attack and focus. Focus is basically your aim skill, and you tend to shoot more than melee, so it is probably more important than attack.
While traveling around, it is worth it to stop at the trash piles and infected cities, and search them. Searching them is the main way to get tons of crafting materials. Which is one of the main things you should be doing with your time, is crafting things to improve your truck and characters.
Crafting is super important and you don't want to overlook it. You want to improve your truck to negate weather penalties and road conditions, and get better weapons.
You can always swap clothing too. I always have my driver wear fitness stuff, but I swap out while hanging out in infested area for extended periods. Most attacks happen after spending time in an area, so outside a few events you almost always have time to swap to armor.
I appreciate you guys taking the time to help out a new player!
