What does "A tomb was found in [City]" mean?
Once in a while, the notification, "A tomb was found in [City]" (Sometimes, "An ancient tomb was found in [City]", I think) will pop up in the travel log. This doesn't seem to have any obvious impact on the city.

Originally, I thought that this would be an instanced dungeon of some sort (or similar search), but even going to a city that found 4 in one year, no such option existed.

After that, I thought that perhaps I wasn't getting there fast enough. However, 6 days later, still no noticeable impact on trade (Up to Trader level goods), or anywhere to search.

At this point, I'm thinking that it might have an impact on the items (quantity?) available at the gem merchant (Cantor), Blind God chant chances (Shrine), or a specific good (jewellery?). However, the earliest I've gotten to a city after this notification, since thinking this, is 16 days, so it's difficult to tell if my tests have any proof to them.

This notification seems to only happen in cities that have a Cantor and a Shrine, although I have only been keeping track of this specific fact for about 2 years.

http://prntscr.com/9dhmea Arrived 6 days after, which should be inside of any "event" timeframe.

http://prntscr.com/9dhlp7 No obvious influence on Shrine luck.

http://prntscr.com/9dhn7h Gem price is 50 gold, 3 silver, so no obvious influence. Stock is a little higher than usual, but not notable.

Sell prices in Cantor don't seem notably higher or lower than usual.

http://prntscr.com/9dho0i No exceptional amounts of items, or counts of rare items in stock

Trading values fluctuate too much for a screenshot to mean much, but the trading values don't seem unusual. Jewellery and Spices are very good deals, but Spices isn't low enough to justify an event, and Jewellery had a necklace proc (http://prntscr.com/9dhpko).

http://prntscr.com/9dhtta Very standard Tavern rolls

http://prntscr.com/9dhtxi http://prntscr.com/9dhu1l Very normal tavern conversations for 30 gold round

No special interactions on any buildings.

Again, what the actual hell does this event do? It seems like nothing, still.

I wonder if it has an effect with a certain guild affiliation? I'd like to know also. :enjoy:

I never noticed that it had any real effect. Maybe it is supposed to impact prices in the city where the tomb is found, but there are so many variables acting on prices in this game that it is impossible to tell. I view it as flavor text, like the "rumors" you can hear in the taverns that don't seem to affect anything either.

I have similar thoughts on the matter, lionhart, but I'm still unable to find any implication that there is an impact on the prices.

While a number of rumors in the taverns don't seem to mean anything, some of them do seem to have relevance, assuming you can get to the city in a timely manner! For example, the rumor about a fire usually results in fire-related goods having an increased price, but only within a ~10 day timeframe.

I'll admit that this could be a mixed of bias, notably confirmation and my own want for the game mechanic of talking in the tavern to not be a needless drain on my coffers! However, that would be a discussion for a different thread.

Straying back on topic, having visited two more towns with a Tomb in a timely manner, I was unable to find any notable price fluctuation. I'm somewhat worried that this effect would be akin to the Ugly Ring's negative benefit, in the regard that it provides a negligible change that would be difficult, or impossible to notice without developer confirmation. In the comparative case, the Ugly Ring's influence is 2% against your favor.
