Linux Troubleshooting
Linux

Dark Scavenger requires Adobe AIR to run. The game comes packaged with an script that will install Adobe Air if you don’t already have it installed on your computer. The script should work on most systems but if it doesn’t, please refer to the information below.

If the provided information does not solve your problem, please send us an email to contact@darkscavenger.com. If the AIR installation aborted, please make sure you include the installation log from here: ~/.appdata/Adobe/AIR/Logs/Install.log.

Common issues:

If the install script doesn’t run even though you don’t have Adobe Air installed, you can run it by using the following command in a terminal ~/.steam/root/SteamApps/common/DarkScavenger/install.sh

If this doesn’t help, or you already have Adobe AIR installed, it may be an issue with the Adobe AIR EULA, see the second to last paragraph for help with this issue.

If you are playing the game outside of Steam, you should run the executable in the bin folder. However, if the sound from clicking with your mouse lags you should the run.sh in the share folder instead.

deb based Distributions (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian):

The installer should always work on these distros. If that isn’t the case, please send us an email to contact@darkscavenger.com

If the installation fails you can also try installing Adobe AIR using the official deb package. First you will need to download the official package and install it using your distribution’s package manager. After finishing the installation, you will have to accept the Adobe AIR EULA.

RPM based Distributions (Fedora, RHEL and derivatives, openSUSE):

If the installation fails on these systems, you can try installing Adobe AIR using the official rpm package. First you will need to download the official package and install it using your distribution’s package manager. After finishing the installation, you will have to accept the Adobe AIR EULA.

Arch Linux:

Arch Linux is not supported by the official Adobe AIR installer but you can install the Adobe AIR runtime by installing the adobe-air-sdk package from the AUR and then following the steps outlined in the Arch Wiki.

Other distributions:

You will need to install the Adobe AIR runtime yourself if you are using a distribution not supported by the Adobe AIR installer. If Adobe AIR is in your distribution’s repositories, installing the package from there should work. If it doesn’t, you can download the Adobe AIR SDK, unpack it and follow the instructions in the Arch Linux wiki on how to symlink the runtime and accept the EULA. Doing this should allow the game to detect your installation of the Adobe AIR runtime.

Manually accepting the Adobe AIR EULA:

Sometimes the Adobe AIR runtime may be installed on your system without you being asked to accept the Adobe AIR EULA. If this happens, trying to run any Adobe AIR binary will fail without notification. To fix this you will need to follow the directions in the Arch Linux wiki regarding how to manually accept the Adobe Air EULA.

A note regarding Pulse Audio Drivers:

In the run.sh file, there is a const set to make sure that the sounds play when we ask them to play for systems using Pulse Audio (PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC). If you are not using Pulse Audio drivers, you can safely remove it. We hope it doesn’t mess with systems not using the offending driver, but we don’t really know that much about Linux.

Here's a post from another thread which may be helpful:

"One problem though: the Adobe Air installer is /really/ stupid. It can't cope with the space in the Dark Scavenger directory (it doesn't properly escape it in the script it creates in /tmp/)."

Answer:

Easy fix install Adobe Air SDK, then run the following commands, note by running the last command you are accepting the Adobe AIR EULA

sudo ln -s /opt/adobe-air-sdk/runtimes/air/linux/Adobe\ AIR /opt/Adobe\ AIR

mkdir -p ~/.appdata/Adobe/AIR

echo 2 > ~/.appdata/Adobe/AIR/eulaAccepted

Thanks GamingPenguin!

Adobe AIR for Linux is no longer supported. To access older, unsupported versions, please read the AIR archive.

Thanks, Adobe. :serioussam:

:Fire up the VM because I'm not running an installer that will f**k up my system: Much later...[i.imgur.com]

Thanks, Adobe. :Clot:

WHY? Do you have to use Adobe Air?
You know that you can bundle it with the game, so no further install is required?

Anyway, I'm going for a refund. It's not playable :/
