Soooo.... Why not online multiplayer?
I'm not an idiot. I know my two cents on programming, and I read the articale on lag. I was just wondering why you couldn't just look at other games.... And I guess take what they did? Tons of MMOs have NO lag whatsoever.

There's a thousand topics about this already. It's 2 dudes. MMOS are designed from the groudn to be online. This was designed from the ground to be a local MP game. They are well aware everyone and their brother wants online MP and are hoping something may change in the future, but now they are focusing on the core game getting completed.

I was thinking more on BattleStick and Realm of the Mad God. Those don't have much lag and I doubt were made by a ton of people.

I know. I've read them. I'm not talking about designing your own multiplayer database, just using what has already been made. Also, MMO's are just an example. Of course some have tons of poeple making those, but those are MMO's, with hundreds of people playing at once. This would have three others. You could look at Move or Die, or something.

Yes I'm sure. I don't know anything on the multiplayer side of it. I'm not even talking about having it NOW, like everybody else, and their brother. I'm talking about HAVING it. They (Barney) mentioned earlier about the fact that they might not even have it in general. I'm just throwing out whatever the heck I feel like. For later.

Still searching for the co-op rogue-like of my dreams...and so the search continues.

Well I definitely wouldn't call Crawl Co-op and probably not even roguelike, if you want suggestions though:

Enter the Gungeon is a local co-op roguelike released recently, although the gameplay is very different, it reminds me of The Binding Of Isaac, 2 "treasure rooms" per floor a boss at the end, secret rooms. Seems to really benefit from it's co-op aspects, I would probably have lost interest playing solo.

Risk of Rain is a Online or Local co-op roguelike about surviving a crash landing on an alien planet, each level is about finding the teleporter and then surviving 60 seconds of constant enemy spawns alongside a boss. A unique feature of Risk of Rain is the longer a run is the more difficult it gets.

Dungeon of the Endless is a strategic Online co-op roguelike that requires precise management of resources to survive. Difficult to explain but it also has some tower defence features

Hero Siege also matches your requests but I didn't find the game enjoyable, currently in the steam store for 73 cents NZD or $2NZD for a 4 pack though.

Hey man! I can tell you why they don't make it online. There is only 2 people as im sure you know this by now but they are really focusing on improving the offline multiplayer to make a fun enjoyable party game that everyone can play. However the online is one of the last things that will be put into the game for they want to make the base game the best game that they can before they add big things like online!

I can tell you what I told the other guy. I currently am talking about the future. I don't want them to halt their game-making to mkae online. I just want them to do it eventually. I remember Barney saying that they might not make it in the first place, and I was just giving that suggestion. (Which was probably useless). BTW, thank you for being polite.

The main reason they probably can't have the game be online and not have lag is because they can't afford to host thousands of games on a server system. Games like Realm of the Mad God only work because there's a server dedicated to keeping track of everything and it's a crazy pimped out computer with top of the line processors and piles of extra RAM. But Crawl isn't just one game world with 400 players in it and a few enemies in their vicinity to check health and AI scripts on. It's a random set of rooms made every 2-5 minutes with only 4 people in it. The server would have to make the map, populate it, send it to all the players, and keep track of all the players for every group of players playing the game. That's significantly more information to both send and recieve. Other players playing on their own game would cause your game to slow down because the server has to make their map.

The only way that Powerhoof could offer online multiplayer is with local hosting, meaning the players would host the game, rather than a server. This means the quality of the connections between players would be severely limited for most groups unless they pay for a server elsewhere, and no server host service will offer to rent a server for an hour or two while you have 2-5 matches of crawl, or they pay for extremely good internet which most players can't afford since they're only 13-25. In other words, there's a pile of stuff going on here that makes online play very unfeasable for a dev team as small as PowerHoof beyond just "It's hard to code" or "Not enough time." So please, give them a break.

Thank you for the educated comment.

I like how the first reply was literally "kill yourself". The guy was asking a valid question.

True, but it gets obnoxious when that's all anyone ever asks. Especially when taking like one second to educate yourself would yield an answer. OP should have looked up stuff first and the first guy should calm his sexy man tits.

There ARE differences, however, between myself and every impatient person. 1. I'm looking to help the team HAVE multiplayer in the future, since they aren't even sure that they will have online multiplayer. 2. I actually have a sort-of suggestion to help, not just yelling at the creators on how "U iz need to make online NOW, or I never buy this." (Not an actual quote). This is a game of spot the difference.
