Controls and Controller Support

We're trying to support as many types of controllers as we can for Crawl. Most controllers should already work, but post in this thread if you're having issues or have any questions.

Known supported controllers

• Mouse - Click the mouse on the join screen to play with mouse
  
• Keyboard - By default only one player can use the keyboard, since a lot of keyboards have issues when too many keys are pressed at once. To add more keyboard players, choose Keyboard Setup from the options menu.
  
• Amazon Fire Game controller and remote.
  
• Apple MFi controller on iOS 7 and above.
  
• Executioner X on Windows and Mac.
  
• GameStick on Linux.
  
• Hama Black Force on Windows.
  
• Logitech F310 on Windows, Mac and Linux.
  
• Logitech F510 on Windows, Mac and Linux.
  
• Logitech F710 on Windows, Mac and Linux.
  
• Logitech WingMan on Windows.
  
• MaxFire Blaze5 on Windows.
  
• Moga Pro on Windows, Mac and Linux.
  
• Natec Genesis P44 on Windows.
  
• NVIDIA Shield on Android and Windows. (Use the XINPUT branch)

Most other controllers will hopefully work too, but no promises. If an unrecognized controller is detected it'll let you calibrate the buttons when first used.

What controller should I get?

If you're looking to purchase controllers, wired Xbox360 controllers seem to be recommended the most frequently (at least for windows).

Known Controller Issues

• Supported controller not recognized or acting strangely on first play - Restarting the game and/or the computer usually fixes this.
  
• If a controller drops out mid-game, (unplugged/runs out of batteries), it may not be recognized when reconnected until the game is restarted.

Controllers over steam link won't work

I just tried to play this on a living room TV through a steam link, the steam link recognized both ps4 and steam controllers and both could navigate steam menus but in-game only the 1st player controller was recognized at any time, even when I swapped in steam link options between 1st player being steam controller/ds4.
I tried to find a solution in the forum for this but my googlefu is too weak.

I have the same problem , I use xbox one controller and xbox 360 controller via wireless adapter . It's fine on local playing , but controllers not working in Home Stream Play Mode. I think it is a small issue in Clawl , developers would fix that quickly,all right?
It is a pity that I just want to play Crawl on the couch with my friends.

my controllers are connected and everything but the game doesn't allow me to use them, they are xbox 360 and xbox 1 controllers if anyone know how to fix this please tell me

Controllers over nvidia gamestream, with nvidia shield won't work. Many other games work perfectly.

I am trying with Xbox One Controller on Ubuntu 14.04, it is working until the game start, then every button pauses the game, i tryied all but i didnt find any solution (including restarting the game, steam, and PC like its said before).

The same controller works perfect on windows 10, but i use ubuntu more than windows, i hope there is a way to fix it.

Oh no! My setup is similar to yours and was planning to get this game but I guess I have to wait for a fix. My setup is Steam Link hardware (and LG TV) using Wired Ethernet, a Steam Controller (using bluetooth), an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller (using Wireless Adapter USB Dongle), Logitech Wireless Keyboard & Mouse (using Wireless Adapter USB Dongle). I have only tried the game Overcooked which is working flawlessly. Having a difficult time finding other games that will work with my setup.

I have also tried a Samsung TV Steam Link App but that has more compatibility problems with wireless controllers.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller + Mac = pairs and almost works, but Crawl isn't registering any inputs from the analog joystick (except if it's pressed down). Anyone else experiencing this, have a fix?

I'm having trouble using a PS4 controller with Crawl. I'm using the Linux version of the game and I have 2 Xbox 360 controller and 1 PS4 controller. The two Xbox controllers work fine but I'm having endless problems with the PS4 controller.

When I'm using only the PS4 controller everything works but when trying to use the 3 controllers at the same time I can't use the PS4 controller. I have 2 different issues with it. At the player selection screen the PS4 controller after a few inputs controls 2 players. If we manage to pass this screen without the fourth player we still can't play because the player using the PS4 controller can't do anything else than moving. Every button pauses the game! After reconfiguring the controls the problem is still there.

By the way we're able to play other games with those 3 controllers without any issue.

Same problem here, I just bought the game and I can't do anything: the game launches, the "insert coin" flashes, and after I click my mouse the cursor appears, but nothing else: I can't move it, and the game doesn't respond to keyboard.

Anything I can do?

Hey, My controllers just suddenly stopped working with the game. They work in big picture mode of steam and they used to work with the game. I went into settings to adjust the keyboard controls before they stopped working so that may be connected.

Hello, im having trouble with controllers too. Got one steam controller and three xbox360 controllers linked to steamlink via wireless dongle. In steam big picture everything works just fine but in Crawl only two controllers (based on controller order) works, it doesnt matter if it is the steam controller or not, just two of four. Sad story for couch game for four people :( Also all controllers works in Castle Crashers

With Mayflash GameCube controller 4 port adapter, players 1-4 need to be assigned the same order as their controller port or there are issues with the axis bindings. At first I thought the adapter was struggling to handle all 4 controllers until I tried with all players in their respective port order.

Having issues with the PS3 controller on linux, left stick and directional buttons worked, but every other button opened the menu. Using xboxdrv to disguise it worked though.
