HELP- How to play with 2 on keyboard?
Im trying to play this with my friend on the same keyboard and we cant get past the selection screen. She redefines the keys and selects the character, then I can't redefine/choose mine as no other keys work. What am I missing?

You can only have 1 player on keyboard at once, but if you click the mouse on the join screen you can use the mouse as the second player.

We limited it to one player on the keyboard because most keyboards only let you press a few keys at once, and we found with multiple people playing you'd be pressing attack and nothing would happen which is very frustrating :)

One of the reasons having multiple players able to play from one keyboard isn't just actually sitting at one keyboard though. I'm working on trying to get the game to play on a 4 player arcade cabinet setup where every button and stick is a keyboard bind. So while it's 1 keyboard, it's essentially 4 players. Trying to work around that now but would appreciate a config option in game :)

Ah yeah, I'm planning on a special mode for arcade cabinets that enables this, since I'd LOVE to play it in a cabinet :D For now I don't think it's possible as far as I know (there's might be some crazy rebinding tools I don't know about)

You should fix this guys. I play hammerwatch with 4 players, two on controllers and two on keyboard and there are far more keybinds to press in order to play hammerwatch properly vs Crawl with is only directional, a and b.

For hammer watch, one player uses wasd and r t y u i and o while another player uses arrows keys and the number pad.

It took some testing and feeling out but we found the keys we chose did not conflict.

Though for crawl, it is best all players have controllers. Some traps in the game cannot be fully utalized with keyboard directional controls.
But still, giving people who cant afford to buy 4 gamepads the option to use the keyabord is just nive to have.

Yeah, we want to support as many control configuations as possible. I'll try and add an option to enable two keyboard players. I also need to put something in so people know that they can play with mouse because that's pretty hidden at the moment.

As players with no controllers but many keyboards to spare the option to bind more players on a keyboard is crutial to us.

We use keyboards as controllers (3 at one PC) so we don't have the few buttons at once limitation, we just need to make shure bindings don't collide.

It would be really helpfull if the game recognised the keyboards from eachother, the only game I've played that supported multiple individual keyboards and mice was Trine2, and it was gold.

There's a super pain in the butt xbox controller emulator for keyboards. On games that don't have multiple user per keyboard support (like Castle Crashers) it's the only way to get them running on a cabinet. Bleh. I've been working all day and I was hoping to set it up simple-style on the cabinet for a party tonight. Frown face.
Edit: Which totally doesn't work with this game. Weak.

Your best option for four players on a keyboard is probably PPJoy. It creates virtual controller on your computer and you can map different inputs, including keyboard, to the buttons. Me and my friends used it and another program to play Crawl with Wii controllers.

Oh thanks! I hadn't heard about PPJoy. I'll let people know they can use that until we add the option in game.

As far as I can see, you can't use ppjoy to map keyboard controls, only controls for other controllers. Typically, people use xb360kb which lets you input keyboard commends into an ini that intercepts them using a dll (xinput1_3.dll). This normally works for any games that need to detect 360 controllers (Street fighter 4/4 CE, castle crashers, Mortal Kombat 2011 (which has HORRIBLE keyboard support.)) But for some reason, this one ignores it (I think it has to do with using its own seperate input dll)
Games like Legend of Dungeon, Nidhogg and Samurai Gunn all have separate key config screens that let you map any keys to any movements in the games. I honestly have never seen a complaint in any of their forums from people having trouble with more than one person per keyboard. I know keyboards used to have max input limitations, but I'm pretty sure no modern keyboards have that problem.

Did you ever add this? I just heard about this game and would like to play it on my arcade cabinet, which had 4 joysticks, all which emulate a keyboard (Ultimarc Ultimate IO board).

I would like to use this 4-player controller to play 4-player games on Steam:

https://www.recroommasters.com/Xtension-4-Player-Control-Board-Ultimate-Edition-p/rm-xt-sd-board-4p-ult.htm

The controller though is mapped to the keys on a single keyboard. Anyway you guys can make this happen?
