Bosses to easy to defeat
I play Crawl from time to time with my friends and we all agree that the two bosses are too easy to kill.

Usually everyone buys just a (preferably) quick weapon and all potions until level 10 and then the first person who gets level 10 just mops the floor with the boss. For example most of the time I can kill Kourok in two combos.

Am I the only one who thinks it is just too easy to kill them?

Other than health, however, the movements of the boss are controlled by the players. It is possible to not let the player even get a hit on the bosses (though probably not Ghidraak). It seems to me that you excel at playing the hero, but not cooridnating the boss together. I would say that against inexperienced players, any half-decent person can kill the boss quickly and efficiently.

All that said, the bosses still could use a health boost, in my opinion. Just playing devil's advocate.

Without a ranged weapon and with competent players controlling Kourok, he's really darned tough now, esp. if the ghosts keep him from opening his mouth when the eyebombs drop in. If they have a ranged weapon (as my wife is wont to do), they just destroy him fast.

Ghidraak is always easy in comparison any more.

Hey guys, this is a dicey issue for us... Lots of players find them too hard, but generally our most diehard players are looking for more challenge, so what to do?

We've got them balanced right now in a middle ground where thy're not too bad for new players, but can still offer some challenge to experienced players (unless they have a particularly good build or are playing against beginners, easy bots etc)...

But I want to satisfy the hardcore players! I want more challenge on the bosses when I play too, sooooo... a little while ago I snuck in a secret technique advanced players can use to up the challenge on bosses- shortly before you fight the boss, there's a little trick you can use to up the challenge... anyone figured it out yet?

As a ghost, you have to activate the pillars in the portal room in the same order as the pillars to warp into Tristram in Diablo 2, and you must complete the combination before the human enters the portal, so all 3 of the ghosts have to work together.
Either that or it's up up, down down, left right left right, iddqd (god mode, get it?)

You can get a slime to go through the boss door before the player entering it, though I'm pretty sure the game just deletes it because it's out of bounds rather than it actually doing anything related to this trick.

hehe another clue? It's something you can trigger as the hero, in the room you teleport to just before the boss fight :)

Found it.

The six stones in the room before the boss fight can be interacted with in a clockwise order, starting with the top-left stone. There's no prompt for the first five stones, though the character will do a 'bump' sort of animation. The final stone will prompt the player if they want to increase the difficulty of the boss. Doing it a second time will increase the difficulty even further.

uhoh, the jig is up!

What does it actually do? Increase the bosses health, damage or what?

That's a lie.

If you complete all vault challenges, you will unlock those difficulties. :x3:
