It is only local, but you can play singleplayer with bots and I've found it pretty fun. They are planning on adding online multiplayer some time in the future, but when exactly that happens isn't cemented :C

Please don't get people's hopes up. I also find this game great against bots, and you may want to read this:

Its from over two years ago, when they were going to see if online mp was possible for this game. With this much time having passed when they were going to START investigating the viabliity of online mp in this game, it's pretty much looking like it will never happen.
