But I can't yet Rat King! I still have to finish the game with all the golden statues and I refuse to move on in a level till I have them all!

Well, the green statue and the red one with the glasses just indicate which of the two developers designed the level.

seems fitting that the first level I started having issues in I ran into the red guy, he was all "deal with it" and I was all *insert Dinkleberg meme here* "damn you crafty foxes!" :p

So if I read right, they give you hints about how to collect all the golden statues but only after you beat the main game? Im on chapter 7 and its a blast looking every corner to find all the statues. Even though on 3 chapters I had to look a guide to find one last idol in each level (collected all but one on 3 chapters). The idol on chapter 6 that unlock the "fog couldnt stop you" achievement was brutal in particular. Even looking online to know where it was, wasnt enough to easily get it.

No, there are no hints in the how to collect all the statues, sorry. But you can listen to some developer commentary - for which you don't even have to collect all the statues.
