All heroes should remain free.
Don't lock heroes behind paywalls like a direct purchase or a battlepass.

For the sake of balance and freedom in team composition, It's better for the whole community that every hero remains accessible for everyone as a default. Not only because of counter-picking but because of Team-Up abilities.

I'd prefer they require missions to unlock with a baseline of characters that everyone immediately has access to, and that mission either teaches you how to play the character or requires you to do something lore thematic for that character.

With the option to purchase the character outright with abhorrent amounts of units / less abhorrent amounts of premium currency, this gives people a semi-lengthy way to get the character for free, a grindy way to get it and a premium purchase option that should satisfy everyone.

The moment heroes get paywalled im out.
And i won't grind 200 hours for a hero i might not even like playing.

Yeah, if they paywall heroes I'll treat this game same way I do Apex.
Just something fun I can play from time to time but I won't sink much time or money into it.

The problem with unlocking characters is Team-Up abilities. Any unlock mechanic will just hurt everyone because team-up abilities require multiple people. Why would you spend time or money unlocking a character when you have to hope some random person spent their time/money unlocking the corresponding character(s) you need for the team-up?

one of the biggest issues with OW2
they release a broken character you cant get for 2 weeks so you get wallet diffed every game. ridiculous.

I believe if the roster grows big enough, perhaps like LoL does is a rotating free hero list every week, locked heros behind a paywall doesn't work for games like overwatch cause there's not a ton to choose from and blizzards braindead balancing launching broken heroes is why.
I think if this game through the data mined roster shows is enough heroes to sustain that, all free heroes would be nice but I don't see it in this game.

I see what you're saying but there's still no valid reason to monetize hero acquisition when you can monetize skins, emotes, sprays and whatever else cosmetic assets they can think of.

LoL is actively pay to win because they choose to make new characters overpowered as hell so people buy their skins and the characters with their paid currency. The only thing LoL is a good example of is how to be a bad workplace for women and minorites.

then you realize that fifa dlc earns more then the whole elder ring series.. $$$$$ battlepasses, unlocks etc is the way its all going =(
