Am I missing something here?
I want to enjoy this game. I want to have fun romping with robots and having them fight others.

But this game makes it almost impossible to

18 hours in, still only in the third area. Why? Because I can't get money to buy parts to upgrade. Am I missing something in that regard? Tool tips keep saying you can send the recruits on missions, but where? How?!

Gets worse

One of my favourite bots is Mort. Can I use it ever? No. Why not? because every time I set it in the battle, AI plonks a melee right next to it. EVERY TIME. Good for AI, they win. Can't use it.

It feels like... every time I try enjoy this game, I have to spend 6 hours of grinding to get money, only to get blasted by teams 5 levels lower than me. But if I try that on an enemy? Hah, decimated.

It honestly feels like the balance on this game is set for micro transactions, and not for play. If anyone can help me solve the money problem such that I don't have to grind for 2 hours to get a chance at that frozen wastelands only to die just to upgrade the boat....

Someone just help if you can. And if this is all there is to the game, let me know too, and put me out of my misery

You mentioned that progression and gathering resources can feel challenging at times, so let me share some tips that might help and address a few specific points you raised.

There are several effective ways to earn coins in Botworld Odyssey. Fishing can be especially lucrative, and the “catch of the day” or rare fish sell for a higher price, helping to boost your coin stash. Danger Zones are also worth exploring since they often contain valuable items and coins. Additionally, try targeting certain enemies like bandits, as they can yield higher rewards than bots in some areas.

As for Mort, since it is one of your favorite bots, positioning Mort effectively is key. I would suggest placing a tank or a brawler next to Mort to protect it while it does damage. You also have Abilities that you can use. Gust is a great ability to help push away enemies from your long-ranged bots like Mort.

The AI will pretty much almost always plonk something near a sniper if it's a non-pack fight, this is where botpack abilities come in. Gust, Immobilize, Freeze Missile, etc.

As for money, you get more money beating bandits than beating wild packs of bots. Would advise farming a bit with bandits you can deal with reliably. What I did a lot was I'd just leave the eastern side of the town, go hug the beach for fish, fight bandits, get scrap, and then jetpack back and repeat if I was low on repairs. Just turn on auto battle if you want.

As for Recruits, if you have any, you can't really customize them until a certain boat level (they willl automatically use the highest level / power bots in the collection not in your party until then) BUT you can bring them with you.
When out and about in the open areas, click the button you'd use to jetpack home (bottom right) and you can deploy one of your recruits. They'll follow you around and do fights for you, but you don't get the rewards. They're good for softening up a larger threat or just clearing the path to go further into areas.

FW_Eren might pop in with some advice as well, or suggesting joining the Botworld Discord for suggestions/feedback.

EDIT: I will say I think bot mobility might be the most important stat than anything. Mort is great, but can't really do much if it can't get away from what it's firing at... Whereas Longshot can just run off.

i agree the AI seems flawed when the player gets the mech compared to fighting it. i got a tether after being bound in place by its ability while it would run away and shoot from afar. my tether will bind the foes then stand right next to them so it can still get punched and stabbed to death.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I was like that too! But once you find a combo that works.. you can kinda spam that combo again and again. Right now all I do is place thump in the middle then place mort+froggy at the edge of the map and I know they will drop a melee near them so i instantly use gust to push them to thump and just watch everything melt after that. Keep playing around with combos this game has a lot of synergy and when it clicks it's super fun :)
