Is there a guide or sth?
Hi. I played a few manager games before (mostly soccer or ice-hockey) but never a basketball manager. I wanted to give this one a try. Are there any tips for beginners like what stats does my co-trainer need most or what are the positions called or what to improve to not go broke such stuff?

I haven't been able to find any guides at this moment so I'll try to help as best I can.

I take it that you're starting a career either in Europe or Asia and not the NBA. The first few years will be tricky when it comes to balancing making money vs being competitive. I'm in Year 6 with Hiroshima of the Japanese League and only at the beginning of Year 5 was I actually making a monthly profit. This was through a combination of upgrading the facilities and keeping a close eye on the team roster. Sometimes I'd just have to sell players since they cost too much or I could make a good chunk of money by sending them away.

I start my career with my Head Coach being a trainer (it gives a boost to training and teaching compared to all other stats). Hiring an assistant coach will become a necessity for you sooner rather than later. I aim for an assistant coach that has offensive and defensive tactic stats above 75.

You'll also want to ensure that you strike a balance between team and individual training at the start of your career. I'll setup 4 hours of training on days between games, 3 hours the day of and after. You could focus on offensive or defensive though I focus on balance and will setup 4 hours of team training and 0 hours of individual until I have maxed out both offensive and defensive. Afterwards, I'll devote all 4 hours to individual training.

As for the positional training, it depends on what you're trying to do. I'll train my Centers to at least a 70 on Inside Scoring, then switch to Frontcourt Defense, and finally Rebounding. The idea is that I want them to focus on staying close to the basket and dominating the other team when it comes to Rebounding. I also do the same thing for Power Forwards.

The Small Forward and Shooting Guards are my Go-To-Scorers. I'll train them to at least a 70 in both Outside and Mid-Range scoring before turning their focus onto Perimeter Defense. If I have a player in one of these positions that might get to a 70 on inside scoring before mid-range or outside scoring, I'll train this stat first, though I'll also focus on speed and these player will cut to the basket in an attempt to score.

I use my Point Guard as my Defender. One of their scoring stats will be upgraded to a 70 and then they'll stay on Perimeter Defense until it hits max along with stealing. The idea is that most teams I face use their PG as their primary scoring threat so I'll use mine for defense.

Hopefully this gets you off to a good start. Let me know any other questions you have.

I should also note that you need to keep an eye on your finances throughout the year. Just because the monthly revenue report might show you losing money, as long as you don't end up with an overall negative balance in back to back months, you'll be fine. You'll receive a rather large cash infusion at the beginning of the season courtesy of the sponsorship offers. Utilize this cash wisely since it'll more than likely be more than a few seasons until you're reaching a monthly profit.
