Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn

Really bad performance?
R9 290 here, and the fps is bad. like 10-15 no matter 1080p or 4k. lowering the LOD and turning off advanced grass makes it slightly playable, but come on! any help is greatly appreciated. fun fact, turning on crossfire makes it completely unplayable, maybe like 2 fps.

R9 295x2 and it crashes after it freezes a couple of times.

Edit, if I play in windowed mode 1900x1200 it stops locking up.

I have 680's in sli and had to play it in windowed mode to get rid of stutter

970 here... no issues for me, except "advanced grass" is definitely a framerate killer, and provides practically no visual benefit (imo).

EVGA 970 OC here and an Intel i7 5930K and I'm getting pretty good performance. I have Vsync OFF, advanced grass ON, LOD set to about half way, and full screen mode ON. Getting 60-78 FPS. Hope you guys find and answer for the performance because this is a great game and I'd hate for anyone to miss out on this reboot of an old game. Good luck and CHEERS :D

I have to turn advanced grass off to get decent performance, but advanced grass looks pretty good.

massive lag and around 30% gpu usage on a Titan X.

This is game falls in the catagory of guilty pleasure, eveything about it looks like s slapped together sideproject, but at its core its still fun. As far as the optimizations go, its really bad, but turnning off advanced grass sorts things out, and the effects is no where near good enough for the massive performance cost it carries.

Until they make "Hunter Primal " have an OFFLINE mode, this game will fill the gap.

Advanced Grass taxes CPU pretty heavily, GPU is not a bottleneck here.
Try lowering LOD a little bit and turning Advanced Grass off — and game becomes perfectly playable at 8-year-old mid-range PC.

Also, SLI and Crossfire are not supported because there is really no need in it. I have an R9 290, too, and get pretty good frametimes on triple 1080p easily.

This begs the question why on earth did you allocate advanced grass to the CPU?

I own a AMD FX 8350 ~ 4.0gig (8 Core Processor)
I own a NVidia GeForce 970; 4gigs RAM
I own 16gigs Installed RAM

default is windowed; but I choose to do full Screen I get 50-60fps
activating advanced grass I get 35-40fps
deactivating advanced grass and moving FOV to full I get 60fps
grass off and keeping FOV on full and moving LOD to full I get 16fps

That's right; Sixteen Frames Per second
I'm betting if I were to have Full Screen + Advanced Grass + FOV (Full) + LOD (Full) I'm guessing the same......10-16fps

Just mentioning my findings :)

It's not "allocated to the CPU". DirectX 9 has big API overhead thus severely limiting amount of draw calls that can be submitted per frame.

I am no software developer, but I find it strange that the advaned grass brings my GTX 770 to its knees when LOD is raised a couple of levels. The game is no Crysis and the advanced grass doesn't warrant such a performance cost IMHO, if you plan on further optimizations down the road then I hope you will take that into account.

At some point this becomes a "realtime renderer" it is not unreasonable to expect a slow down with everything turned up.

Try Microsoft Flight X and jet 1000 over a city on Max detail, AA, and realtime shadows, it will cripple a PC.

Just dial back the LOD.

Great game I have bought again.
