Can't pick items up

Hello, so currently i am having a problem picking items up off the ground, i click 'e' on the item and it just says examine, then i leave for a while and sometimes i come back and the 'take' option is available. This bug is preventing me from continuing the story in act 2 - friends searching for frydryk. I cannot pick up the bandana to take to the spy, any work arounds or fixes? Any help would be much appreciated.
