Map is horrible.
Its useless. It needs to hold more detail instead of just massive boxes for an entire area. I have never seen a map like this in a modern game. It needs to redone.

That is because the game designes a map (world) per player/world.
No player has the same map. That is why there boxed.

The map layout isn't that bad for being generated. Can get a bit repetitive at times though.

The mini map on the other hand is just dreadful. Almost worthless as it HARDLY gives the rough shape and next to no other detail. Even the markers it has doesn't tell me much of anything other than "a thing is somewhere around there".

The game has problems to say the least. The mini map is just 1 of them.
mine doesnt update lower levels I cant use it at all
they need to fix the map This is pathetic for a modern game
stopped playing until they fix the map

We can all agree that the mini map and maps are horrible. Unless the devs decide to start reading through somebody's comments they're not going to know what to fix next. But the map should be at the highest priority.

We ALL don't agree. The map isn't that bad and gets the job done. Their focus could be better spent.
What actually needs to happen is the procedural generation needs to be improved so it generates rooms that real people would actually build. Too many stairways both to and from nowhere, hallways and rooms with no purpose that meander randomly for no reason. Dwarves don't build that way. The map wouldn't suck so bad if there was some rhyme and reason to the levels

yes, I agree. It's terrible. Apart from the markers, it's totally confusing.
The maps don't provide much detail, and it is easy to miss stuff. The current maps help you see where you are, but not what is around. You need to explore everything on your own to find important things. More detailed maps would make the game easier. But I'm not sure I want that.
You can add your own markers and that helps a LOT. But it is still difficult to find routes that are hidden or go down, I agree. The only real way I've found that helps is relying more on a system of torches and structures that I use to guide me places. That doesn't solve my gripes with the map UI, but it's an idea to work around it.

I doubt they'll change the map now given the age of the game. :/
