Aw diddums
If you can't understand that comment I can't help you bud.
Having read most of the drivel you have written though, it seems you are inca
And the pot is the kettle here - i have read your comments before and after and you are quite literally the person you a railing against.
You try to make other opinions illegitimate by saying they are "lining up with the corporations" or "most normal people are the opposite"
You are legitimately able to whine about the inclusion of gays, blacks, whatever and be a complete bigot. You can hide under the premise of 'well a book written before equal rights was a thing doesnt have it' shtick all you want but the truth is you are 100% viewing your opinion as the only legitimate one and are incapable of seeing the other side.
No ones making you make a black dwarf, no ones making you be a trans character or whatever other grief in this game or any other you may play is. No ones forcing this on you.
Just because you play video games doesnt mean they others dont. Im sorry but believe it or not people like you that passive aggressively act morally superior to gay, trans, etc people are why this avenue can be the only venue (gaming not this game specifically) where they can play something they see themselves in or get away from the hatred being pushed upon them lately.
I find the ability for the modern audience to connect with stories from ages past to be a good thing, i get that you dont and you are free to make your own 'true to tolkein' game should you wish.
or better yet - go find whatever 'mainstream' game that fits the 'normal' people better.
good lord
This is just a repeat of the last guy.
There's not much new here that hasn't already been addressed.
You predictably come up with the 'no one is forcing you to do X' narrative.
Point out where I've been acting superior to gay, trans, etc?
That's just an assumption that you've made.
People of other communities are welcome to create original work and portray that work however they like, if any other group of people felt that their culture was being distorted and changed to suit a political agenda, I'm sure you'd be far more sympathetic to their cause, however because you have adopted a modern racial ideology, you abandon those principles when it comes to any works produced by Western people.
ANY group of people are in their right to push back against their culture being distorted by any ideology. And no, they don't have to pass any imaginary goalpost you set for their complaint to be legitimate.
This not a situation of a pot calling a kettle black, if I produced a movie or game that had themes that validated my political views, I wouldn't expect other people to like those themes. In fact, I have the capacity to understand why they don't like it, and I'd try to win them over with a rational conversation. I can't have a rational conversation with people who believe in a modern racial ideology because they themselves are not rational - they're religious. The words "racist, nazi" occupy the same psychological space as "heretic, infidel."
People like you have the belief - that disliking the themes that you like - is an illegitimate dislike in the first place; and you certainly don't try and back up your views with any real argument, short of using words like "racist, bigot". This use of language further shows you inability to understand the mindset of someone who doesn't like the things that you like.
Im not saying its an illegitimate dislike. Im telling you that you are claiming ownership of an ip that you didnt create, and have little to no hold on. This game was made with consent of the literal IP holders and fits the narrative they are okay with.
Where you are acting superior is in your postulating that you and 'your culture' have legitimate holds over the ip to raise a stink about something that neither is your choice to make nor forced on you. you also whether concious or not show your 'moral superiority' through word choice throughout - referring to your side of the spectrum as the normal ones, acting as if your culture is being distorted by developers choices to add character you dont like, and that you are the 'sane majority'
id have no more legitimate right to push back in say a Mormon church because they weren't teaching the catechisms as its against the predominant culture of my area and the majority.
but keep acting as if you are morally superior, above board and not the one denigrating the fact this game doesnt fit within your narrow view of what tolkiens works are or would be and that the grand majority of 'normal' people as you yourself put it would like.
Your outlook is very capitalist.
You imply western people don't exist as a group and disregard their culture.
I'll explain:
Art and literature is more than just intellectual property. Tolkien's work was influenced by 20th century Europe, mainly England. It's a reflection of that time and place. It's a reflection of the community and country he grew up in. Tolkien was born in a time when even critical theory didn't exist yet. I assure you, his works have nothing in common with modern racial ideology. People today still hold a sentiment to that time and place, it's in their history, and it's something they should care about.
Your argument doesn't mention this at all. I think it's because you don't see it. Liberalism is an anti-culture. In your framing, you paint me as an individual, who has no personal connection to Tolkien's work. I'd just ask that you be consistent. Go tell a Black man that he has no personal connection to 'Uncle Tom’s Cabin', or 'Twelve Years a Slave'. Go tell an Indian man that he has no connection to 'The Siege of Krishnapur'. Go tell a Muslim man that he has no connection to 'The Book of Saladin'. I ask you to be consistent in your individualism. You champion the culture of other groups selectively, based on whether or not they fit into an arbitrary power dynamic that you believe in.
You say I'm acting superior, which isn't it exactly, I have contempt for people that are unprincipled. There's nothing to respect about liberals. Liberals will make an absolute claim, and then abandon their own principle in the following sentence.
Of course a liberal would take a complicated / nuanced argument like this and dumb it down to consent / force. I've already addressed that, it's a stupid conversation.
Tolkien would have been justified in opposing what modern liberalism stands for. It deconstructs the culture he grew up in, casts them as a loose collection of individuals, promotes grievance ideology, and gives power to minority elite opinion. The latest batch of games and movies produced by liberals have an absolute lack of sincerity. The Rings of Power, despite having an enormous budget, does not even come close to reflecting the setting, time and place of Tolkien's work. This latest batch of games and movies are still anecdotal, but here's an emerging pattern, that liberals a culturally void.
My argument is not data-driven and so it would be difficult to put into a point format.
I suggest you use an AI to create a bullet point list of my comments that you can read.
Like this:
Here’s a bullet point summary of the comment:
Capitalist Perspective:
- Criticizes the recipient’s viewpoint as being rooted in capitalism.
Western Culture & Identity: Argues that Western people and their culture exist and
should not be disregarded.
Art as Cultural Reflection:
- Literature, including Tolkien’s work, is more than just intellectual property.
Tolkien’s work reflects 20th-century Europe, especially England, and its cultural
context.
Modern racial ideology is unrelated to Tolkien’s influences.
People today still value and feel connected to that historical period.
Critique of Liberalism:
- Liberalism is described as an "anti-culture" that denies collective cultural identity.
Accuses liberals of selectively supporting cultural identity only when it fits certain
power dynamics.
Suggests an inconsistency in how different cultural works are treated (e.g., Black,
Indian, and Muslim historical narratives vs. Tolkien).
Contempt for Liberals:
- Views liberals as unprincipled and inconsistent in their arguments.
Believes liberals make absolute claims but abandon them when convenient.
Critique of Modern Media & Liberal Influence:
- Argues that modern liberalism deconstructs and undermines traditional Western
culture.
Claims recent adaptations, like Rings of Power, lack sincerity and fail to capture
Tolkien’s setting.
Suggests a pattern of cultural emptiness in liberal-produced media.
In my opinion, I believe that elite academics have taken a genuine concern for fairness and social justice, and diverted that concern to attacking western culture.
I believe it's possible to care about social justice, whilst also valuing the nations and cultures of other people equally, and that includes westerners.
I do not believe that modern social justice has measurably improved the lives of individual people, short of a few 'token victories' like gay marriage.
Individual people struggle to pay rent, struggle to afford the cost of living, compete in a highly competitive job market for less and less money and deteriorating working conditions.
Modern racial politics seems the most focused on promoting grievance ideology, and pitting different groups against each other.
I personally do not see modern racial ideology as moral. I see it as hostile. Whites are doing worse and worse, and Blacks are doing worse and worse, whilst elites become more rich and powerful.
I believe modern liberalism appeals to some of the worst parts of human nature - the desire for social status, the desire for moral superiority over others, the excusing of degenerate behaviours, the excusing of antisocial behaviours. And worst of all, the creation of a category of person who has illegitimate interests. This category can be changed at any time, to fit any type of person.
Most often it's used when referring to Cis White Hetero Men who display reactionary thinking.
But you see it can be changed to include Pro-Palestine voices.
To summarise, this modern form of social justice is not fair, it doesn't treat people equally or with legitimacy, it appeals to the more nasty parts of our personalities, it's reactionary, and it is fundamentally dishonest in the way it justifies itself (protecting democracy whilst ignoring the political concerns of the majority of voters.)
So when you see Black dwarfs in the Tolkien universe, it can be very easy to dismiss this as a silly thing that doesn't matter very much, but there a several principles (that I have mentioned already) beneath this which should be defended.
I believe the main question is:
Who's lives are uplifted by the presence of Black dwarves?
Who feels that their culture is being subverted by the presence of Black dwarves?
Who decides which group should be preferenced, and why?
I believe it's possible to uplift the lives of people without subverting the culture of others. Is this an unreasonable solution?
some people have there eyes wide shut
nothing left to talk about - and so im passing by from time to time to see if there is something constructive going on
