Games too difficult so early on
I'm solo with difficulty on default without changing any settings and the game is absolutely difficult. I've had to restart a good few times because each time, I get swarmed by something. Even if I rush to get iron ore, coal, wood etc.. plant down the hearth, make extra axes/shields, I'm getting swarmed. I was barely 5 minutes in after getting placing down a hearth that I had 15-20 bats come at me 1 after the other. I had a raid on my base with no notification so while on low health, ran to my base for a 4 or 5 goblin orc things with bows and swords waiting for me. What's happening here? Is this game not meant for solo play?

When horde is coming you have to play smart, find some corner that's difficult to access and you can take em out usually 1 by 1. When you dig tunnels through areas these are good places to defend.

Also when you dig for resources leave the front of the resource area undug and dig the back first, the enemies can't break stone or dirt they can only break the buildings you build.

Horde is a set amount of time you could wait them out without fighting anything if you think you're not gonna succeed.

FYI, there is a difficulty setting called "solo"

Same here guys I keep getting a beat down. I finally deleted my character and started over on solo. Even solo is still rough. I am logging for the night but will be back later today if anyone wants to group up. Just reply to me so I know.

You can change the difficulty level when you want during the game.
Try with solo or custom setting.

The default Difficulty is intended for a group of dwarfs. When you create your World/Sandbox change the Difficulty to Solo. If you are still finding it frustratingly difficult, you can fine tune and create your own Custom Difficulty once you load and started your World/Sandbox.

Sir, you are aware that you're actually triggering that Horde, right? You don't NEED to survive the Horde, chill.

game is totally soloeable on default difficulty. unless you play it like its casual button masher mainstream game. then youll die of course. its a survival game.
Skal! Fight 'ard and well, kinsman!

use a shield or even 2 if 1 breaks
bring 2 or even 3 sets of armor when the first breaks
dodging is OP as you have like 20+ Iframes

then turn the difficulty down to your level? those settings exist for a reason.
not sure why people cry about a game being too difficult when all they have to do is adjust the built in difficulty settings.

Generally, a game on default is meant to be the way the game is played. And not really a cry, it's a frustration why you get swarmed so early on with no time to gear up enough without being swarmed.

I agree it's not well balanced for a solo player and also game is designed to play in a group, that's why solo default seems off and probably why they added settings to change it. I doubt the devs even tried playing their game from start to the end as a solo player to test the balance.

And, as always, "solo doable" doesn't mean it's proportionally balanced or equally fair as a game in group. This happens a lot with games designed as co-op that have a sp mode. It's frustrating but well, at least we can change settings to ease it.

I managed to get up to the Kazad Dum bridge playing on normal difficulty as a solo player, it was rough for some parts but its possible, I switched it to solo difficulty now. Seems there are a lot less enemies at a time and they have less HP.
