Spawn too fast

I'm trying to get to mine iron but with spawns happening so fast I run out of health by the time I get there. I have to go back to base and cook another meal and rest. Why are there no rations? Meals spoil so quick you can only make one at a time. All I'm doing is going back and forth killing wolves and goblins along the way,

You can make dried apples or lembas and other rations in the oven. I think the oven is unlocked after you've mined or found copper, since you need copper bars for it.

there are rations you can craft them in the Oven once you can build it
