Stone Hearth Destroyed by Orcs
Stone Hearth Destroyed by Orcs before I could build bedroll. Very early in game, no recipe for hearth available. When I say destroyed, I mean they erased it. Nothing to rebuild.

This has left me without the ability to craft essential items like the Bedroll, which means I have no way to recover health other than dying repeatedly.

This is all kinds of fun. Words fail me.

Steps I Have Taken:

Verified the integrity of game files.
Restarted the game and my PC.
Checked for and installed any available updates.
Explored the area for alternative hearths and crafting stations.

People that tell me to git gud risk being mocked. If you have anything useful to contribute, by all means. Otherwise it appears I will need to start over - or do something that is actually fun instead.

Can't you just build a new hearth? You should be able to at least build a campfire, which will get you going.

If using keyboard, it should be in the build menu, accessed with the "b" key.

It does need coal, but there should be coal available in the starting area to mine.

The other option is - you are very early on in the game. Keep the character and start a new game. Also, make sure you are playing Campaign and not Sandbox. Sandbox is very random, doesn't have a tutorial, and is much harder if you don't know the game yet.
And maybe set the difficulty to an easier level.

Thank you, Greybeard, not only for your humanity but also your advice is good. Unfortunately it is too early in the game for hearth or even campfire recipes but I'll start over, I didn't lose that much.

Sincere thanks.

Sounds like a good idea, tbh.

Greybeard's point about the difficulty level is well worth noting. I think the default setting is intended for "a small group of dwarves" or something along those lines, so might need adjusting accordingly for solo play. You can always bump it back up when you get used to the game.

I thought the camp fire was available, I don't recall not seeing it, but I was new to the game yesterday so not sure. I did manage to get my camp up and protect it.

As the both others have said, think you need a little more practice fighting, blocking, kicking etc. As Greybeard said, make sure you play the campaign first, and simply restart, you've not lost a load by this point anyway

Hope you stick with it, it's actually a fun little game. we've spent about 20 hours just in the first area, not even got to a second section yet.
I honestly cannot recall when the three hearths unlocked. I know they did before I got to the first cursed door because I set up a new camp in a village smith I found along the way.
In all seriousness though, that's an interesting oversight. Wiki says that in campaign hearths and even campfire are unlocked only after repairing the stone hearth, which, I assume, is a unique piece since I never seen one in sandbox. So theoretically, if during a fight orcs or player accidentally break the unrepaired stone hearth, they are stuck. This probably should be reported to the devs.

i recommend turning the difficulty down for some time
if you wander moria for the first time the game can be cruel at some point, normally you can pickup the material from a destroyed hearth - but there are some cases where material might fall thru the floor.
i think restarting the was a good choice in this case

or you can check up your save files - the game puts ".bak" files which can be used to restore an older savegame - saves a lot of frustation in some cases

We're all here, it appears, because we like challenging games. With the possible exception of this author, the group seems to be comprised of alpha male types.

Yes, I'm a noob. But wait! My one redeeming quality is my delusions of adequacy.

Meaning this...I'll stick with it, despite the fact that the first run-through was literally impossible.

@Harag...oh I don't think a little more practice is going to do it. Let's start with a whole lot of practice & then reassess.

I don't recall how many kids I have, you're doing great by comparison.

Danku you may yet be of interest. You can dish it out & you can take it. Either you have achieved some degree of maturity or there's a steel plate in your head & my mockery went unnoticed. Either way, I've met friends in worse circumstances. If we're going to be civil, count me in.

M.Red is a memorable & worthy member of the Empyrion community. The RtM community can't be too terrible if M.Red is in it.

I did restart & this time the game skipped orcs & went directly to trolls. Maybe you're right...

o7 Salut

GreyBeard you will be disconcerted to learn that hearth unlocks immediately after you survive your first siege. Good timing, don't you think.

Awesome. Gotta wonder what they were thinking.
