First raid too hard
How to survive the first raid, do you have any tips?
I was completely unprepared for this - I had a shield and a bad axe. And I had a dozen enemies against me (solo difficulty). I didn't even have time to assemble the iron for my first sword. In the process of defending, my character died 2 times when the axe broke.
Is this probably some kind of bug or just terrible game design?

I'm still playing alone but on maximum difficulty now and I think the trick is simply to get the iron sword as fast as possible. The shield does'nt matter that much at easier difficulty since you can dodge and the stamina regenerate quite fast. On hardest difficulty, shield is breaking a lot faster and stamina is coming back very slowly.

So, when you reach Ori's Outpost, work to get yourself the iron sword as fast as possible. After that, block your entrance with stone walls (and a door ^^) to create some kind of chokepoint to avoid the goblins going everywhere in your base and you should be ok.

Not to be elitist, but you eventually "git gud". Making sure you always block hits. Poke and prod, never overextend. Don't get greedy to deal damage. We got our asses kicked in our first few raids. Especially before getting upgraded gear. Then we got a poorly timed raid while we were exhausted, hungry, and had just fought a troll. We ended up getting surrounded by about 30 buggers. And we rocked it. We just played it better. We never would have been able to do that with our starting skill level. The game just has some particular timings to keep in mind as you fight. Also your gear is very durable. Make sure your shield takes the damage for you.

Interesting, it begs a question. Can you not build barricades, fortifications around your camp? Create choke points and defensive stands, etc.?
Build a base up on the indestructible pillars and wait out the raids if you dont think your gear is good enough

you can triple or quarter up your walls and let 1 entry open to funnel in enemies
but even on higher difficulty it becomes a non issue especially since sieges do nothing. they target your main mcguffin, destroy it and leave, the resources drop and you just rebuild it, even then it barely has a cost to begin with. everything they destory on the way drops and drops NEVER disappear in this game to a point its actually a problem having stuff ly around everyhwre even 50 hours later

Yes, interestingly, the very first raid on my very first base was among the most difficult I ever had. I died, they destroyed lots of the stuff in there. Later ones are not that hard because you yourself just play better, get better equipment and more experience how to build an effective defense and where.
