If you like playing games solo, this game works great solo. If you only like playing in groups, this game works great in groups. If you only like playing in groups, you won't like playing this game solo either.
I'd maybe compare it to Valheim. Similarities include different biomes/areas, and game difficulty is tied to the highest level biome/area you have entered. In both games, a large bird offers advice. Both games require building and improving a base to improve your character's gear in order to improve your character's combat capabilities. And you have to explore to unlock new improvements for your base and gear.
If the setting isn't getting to you, playing solo is okay, I guess. The mechanics sure don't demand a group. Well .... except for backpack space.
