Anyone else find the Axe of Durin underwhelming? (Spoilers!!)
So I'm playing solo and I finally forged it. And it turns out to be a pick axe! With a hammer head for the other end. TBH it looks like an actual maul (not what they call mauls in the game, which are warhammers). The sad thing is, you can't use it as a weapon (and it would be AWESOME as a weapon by looking at it). It's just a pissy pick axe with one redeeming quality...it can break through the cursed doors. Other than that, the Quarrymaster is by far superior as a pick axe. Plus, although it's supposed to protect you from the curse, it doesn't seem to. I got cursed while wielding it. So I tried it for a bit, broke the curse doors, then hung it up on a wall. Sad. So much build up for something that is ultimately boring.

Understand that I really like this game. I love being a Dwarf in the Lord of the Rings setting. But there are some serious oversights in this game. The other major one related to the Axe of Durin I won't even get into, as it is top tier spoiler material. Let's just say I tried something, which should have had major consequences game wise, and the game basically said I can't do that yet. For no logical reason.

I'm interested to hear what others who have got this far think.

I like the torch. Durin's Axe is like for the campaign progression but meh.
I can't stand the torch. Being stuck behind you, it constantly casts a shadow in front, reducing your visibility and even causing eye strain from the constant motion as you move.

I've noticed the same. Great when you hold it, but otherwise, meh. I like the candle helmet. Use that constantly. If you combine the two, it will help with the shadow somewhat.

When I got Durin's axe I went in my other games and smashed the barriers in west gate to get quick access to the last zone. 😂

I don't understand... Durins axe has all the qualities of the quarrymaster while being one handed? I haven't tested the quarrymaster on mithril or adamintian but I know it mines iron, tin, and copper faster than the quarrymaster???? Same radius as well....

Also it reduces the time it takes to be debuffed, if you don't drink or consume anything you'll notice a good 150-200% time reduction in the shadow debuff (I forgot the name)

You are supposed to hold the torch, like a normal torch, to get the full torch benefit. The fact that it ALSO provides a lot of light when tucked into your backpack is why it's a "special" masterwork item.

I'd support a mod which made it go into a standard quickbar slot, or de-masterworking it in whatever way, but I can live with it as is. AKA yes I agree it is annoying with the shadow it casts in your backpack, but cost of doing business. For a while I just went quarrymaster and normal torches, as much wood scrap is everywhere, no need to be frugal.

Also, being somewhat colorblind, when using the fancy torch, it washes out the color on the poison mushrooms, so I can't tell the poison clusters from the non-poison ones. Secondary reason I went back to normal torches eventually.
Durin's Axe is a one handed Quarrymaster which by itself is pretty damn good, but also increases your Shadow fog resistance by a large margin (but not shadow damage resistance from Shadow orks).

I agree it wasn't what I expected but since the Quarrymaster is the GOAT of masterworks anyway, having a direct upgrade almost feels like cheating. Shame it's not like a two in one weapon where you can flip it to the hammer end and use it like a Mattock or something.
