The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria™

Statistiche:
Useless map just leaves me confused and lost!
I've never been in a game with a more useless "map" than this one! All it does is tell you what area you're in and not ANYTHING ELSE ! How in the world is this going to help? I keep getting stuck in the the mines and can't figure out how the hell to get anywhere else! I'm in my second attempt at this game and I keep getting stuck in the mines. The only difference I can see in the first seed is that the way down had a series of wood platforms to jump down i and in this last one it has a large stone tower with stairs down. They're both confusing and seems like the lower mine section I've gotten to both times is all dead ends. This is just frustrating and I really don't like frustrating!! At this point I'm ready to trash this game and move on. This "seed world" business seems to work for some and frustrate others.

They actually tried to "improve" the map, if you can believe that.

If you look at older posts/videos, most show a room by room layout, but now zones are just one big block.
Mark your way with torches if needed. But I can imagine it getting really confusing, if your memory and spacial awareness are not that great.

I have been watching old videos, I agree 100%. I much prefer the old map, the new one is pretty useless. Not sure who would ever think it's improved.

The outcroppings on the edges clearly show where there are undiscovered areas. There are wide ones and narrow ones.
Had the game been made in the 80's or 90's I could maybe have understood it, but even then they had better maps in most games.
For a game made in the 2020's(the decade, not the year) they may as well not have had a map at all.
The map shows the different rooms. It shows you where in the room you are.

Would a more detailed map be nice? Yes. The previous version at least showed where rooms actually had connecting points, that's missing in the new one. The current version is visually a bit nicer, but actually lacking in information in exchange. Things like the ascents or descents in the mines would be nice if they showed the new rooms on the different levels.

Is the current map completely unuseable? No. It's very rudimentary, I agree. But at the very least, it does show you where the next rooms are. No map at all would be more annoying.
The old map actually threw me for a loop when I played. I figured it was a PS vs PC thing.

Good Lord. How can anybody think the new map is an "improvement"?
I want no-map, no-minimap, no-teleport difficulty options. It's amazing for replayability when you're looking for a new kind of challenge.

How do you get your stuff up7down areas like crystal decent?

Building rope ladders? Down is easy, you can just throw stuff down.
A practice for memory. When you grind enough, you will remember the ways to go. Navigating in the darkness is naturally disorienting, even in RL. One thing to do in dungeon crawlers is pick a wall, and follow it. Your supposed to build wall mounted torches to light your way , and remind you that you have been here before. Where you have not lit it up with torches, is where you need to explore more. That's the way I do it anyways.
Another tip for people who get lost easily: Turn off minimap rotation in the game options. That way you can constantly glance in which direction you're going.
100%. The map in this game isn't some quirk people need to learn how to use. It's a bad design that needs to be fixed.

If I can't find my way back to an area I have been before, I look at the map. If after looking at the map, I still can't find my way back, it's a problem with the map. I shouldn't have to break out a pad of graph paper to keep track of where things are in a PC game from 2023.
We need a map like Black Desert Online. A 3d map you can rotate and zoom in on.
