How do you combat depair?
Esp in the deepest depth or w/e that place is called where it goes up constantly. (Without teleport cheese that is) Is there an intended way to fight it or it's another oversight just like the gear tiers at the start?

Until you get much later into the game and get an ale which negates shadow curse/despair build up, pretty sure your only option is to go down there with a light (mining helmet, torch in hand, torches along the walls, whatever), mine as much as you can, then run back up when despair is about to hit to recover, and repeat.

It says it is healed by light.

I put torches on every tile of wall and floor in one room to test that but that did not work... Building a hearth does not work either.

Bring a couple stacks of food with you, heal the damage away.
Or sing and drink before going to sleep and hope you get Pale Hope.

Or make a bunch of the warding/cleansing (whatever they're called) consumables from damaged ones at the workbench.

Durin's Lamp? Or can you make that lamp like way to late in the game?

Anytime I have started getting despair in the Deeps it's normally because I am wearing the mining helmet. It doesn't put out enough light/heat, so I craft a torch and equip it. Every time the despair has went away instantly and not came back as long as I held the torch. Stepping in the pools and getting shadow cursed is another thing all together. That is a curse causing you to be in shadow no matter how much light there is, stay in that and you will get despair.

Zarok's Torch (Masterwork)? I just made it. Doesn't actually need to be equipped. Well need to equip it once then swap to another weapon/shield and it'll cast light from the backpack. Supposedly no despair when slotted.

I'm soloing so i'll miss the no need to repair Masterwork Shield. Guess i take a backup with me. Just opened the deeps so ready to go there.

the deeps and the darkest deeps are a separate thing
the darkest deeps are the very, very deep tunnels that require 4-6 rope ladders to get down
you CANNOT combat despair in there using light

Just a quick note. The wizard mark right above the entrance to deepest dark crevice says "The shadows of the lower deeps are not strong against the light of Durin's Lamps." Now why put the mark there if it didn't help fight it.

I just finished it and was using Zarok's Torch. I made a map stone in the cave 3 rope ladders down. Promptly died to the beast. Made sure to avoid that sucker and mined all the spots. I had to teleport out of there 6-8 times but finished it all. So not really seeing a problem unless that Torak's Torch slowed down darkness. I haven't tried it without Torak's Torch. It certainly doesn't stop it.

Oh and found a 2nd one. This one had the Pilgrim Road Marker 2 nest to it. Can't be bothered going down it. Already have plenty of gems. Unless they stuck a statue down there that needs rebuilding? I'm guessing no.

Dawnbreak pale ale helps a ton.

Is this negation on purpose?
