Recipe statue collection problems
So I read through older 1.2 patch notes and saw reference to the repairable statues being broken - giving coins or ore rather than recipes or parts of recipes. Does this bug still persist? My sandbox map seems to have all the relevant unlocks but my story mode map appears to have some statues that gave us nothing at all, particularly once we hit the Elven gardens area. We've backtracked through the entire map and completed a thorough search in case we missed anything - including knocking through any minable walls. We still don't have the steel sword recipe and we're well into the mines area.

Is this affecting anyone else?

Yes, and its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible. I'm 10 statues in and zero recipes. How can they ♥♥♥♥ up this badly in a game about dwarves, crafting and so on?

Not getting recipes is a game breaking bug. The scaling depends on gear.

They're not broken. There are more statues in each area than you need to unlock the available recipes. Once you've unlocked the recipes for that area, the every additional statue gives coal/iron ore.

You will always begin the next area with a weapon that doesn't do full damage. You get the appropriate weapon within that area.

He's not talking about weapons. He's talking about armor recipes that are one, tedious to find, two, come in thirds (this should be modded out -> Looking at you modding community), and three are (VERY) random.

EDIT: The gameplay loop is "off". The very first area you come to (the square with four buildings, I call it 'The Arena' because Goblins are always there waiting for me in the morning), requires upgrades to one, or more buildings that you cannot make.

These upgrades are hours away in terms of gameplay. Not to mention the "impacted dirt" that requires you to repair Navi's forge. (I experienced a bug there that ended a prior runthrough).

So the game wants you to discover statues, only some, if not many of them are behind said dirt that you cannot mine through.

This means the loop is progress from area 1 -> area 2, THEN come BACK to area 1.

Sometimes. I've seen twice now since the steam real release where certain areas are shy one or two statues.

Make sure you're looking up & down as you move through rooms. Many sections have additional rooms on additional levels which are very poorly represented by the map (they just overlap).

i've only received recipes from the statues, however i only created my world yesterday, if your world is old maybe the loot is pre baked in and wont benefit from any fix?

On a similar note about recipe unlocks, sandbox mode seems much harder as you don't have the outpost areas where you find recipes for some of the crafting benches like the rune table by repairing one in the wild. Has anyone played enough of sandbox to confirm that things like the rune table and loom are even in this mode?

I moved from the starter area, to westgate, to the elf area and to the second level. And after 30 statues, NO RECIPES.

How can you say this is normal?

What is the point of exploring, opening chests, getting the same loot over and over, repairing statues that don't even give me ore or any reward whatsoever? What even is the point?

The orc area has enemies with higher stats and my weapons/armor are no longer sufficient. The game is fundamentally broken.

For the storymode when i got to the elf area I didnt even have boots. I had to goto sandbox mode, pick up a boots recipe, craft it, lug it back to story mode just so i could get boots. How ridiculous is that?

The Rune table I have been able to build in my sandbox world. I'm having issues where the loom table will not unlock.

I'm convinced something is off with 'sandbox' mode.

Definitely seems that way with some crafting bench recipes that are supposed to unlock once you've touched all or some of the components and the ones that are given to you in story mode in the Balin camp areas. Will hopefully be addressed in next patch.

The iron armor does not have boots or a helmet. The first you get those is the steel armor. In story mode at least. So no, you first get boots past the elf quarter.
